Two Main St. boxers will advance to Washington D.C. Golden Glove finals on April 1st at the Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington MD.
The 2017 Golden Gloves Tournament continued on Sat evening at the Rosecroft Raceway where Main St Gym’s James (Matt) McMurdo won his semifinals bout against Steven Sparks, fighting out of Madhouse Boxing, in the novice, super heavyweight division. McMurdo’s dominant performance began quickly in the first round landing solid punches that caused the referee to give two standing eight counts in the first round.
The second round saw more of the same, with the referee stopping the bout halfway through the round.
The win advances McMurdo to the Washington DC Golden Gloves finals on April 1st .
Also advancing to the finals is Main Street’s Thomas Mottinger, who will be fighting in the open class heavyweight division. Mottinger and McMurdo will be in search of a gold medal and the opportunity to advance to the Golden Gloves Regional Finals on April 22nd . Mottinger is a Realtor for Joe Maggio Realty in Delaware and McMurdo is a 5th grade teacher at Prince St. Elementary School here in Wicomico County.
