No Free Lunch: Donors Come Forward To Erase Students’ Debts

BALTIMORE (AP) — Ashley C. Ford felt driven to act by a sad fact of life in the nation’s school cafeterias: Kids with unpaid lunch accounts are often embarrassed with a substitute meal of a cold cheese sandwich and a carton of milk.

Ford, a New York City writer, appealed to her 66,000 Twitter followers with a solution. “A cool thing you can do today is try to find out which of your local schools have kids with overdue lunch accounts and pay them off.”

In the nearly two months since, people around the country have been inspired to donate thousands of dollars to erase debts owed by parents that can follow kids throughout their school careers.

Didn't Joe Albero do just that last Christmas? Where was the msm coverage of that? Oops, sorry, I forgot we don't publicize the good deeds of conservatives.

Did Joe do it for MSM coverage> I think not !!! He did it because he could afford to do it, he did it for the children.

Joe's gift let hundreds of Wicomico County families start fresh in the new year with no school lunchroom debt. Never a mention in the local news, but that's par for the course here.

Without PR no one will ever know the numbers Joe actually helped. It would have been up to the BOE to release the information to local MSM. Otherwise MSM would be unaware the meal bills had been paid in full.

I'm inclined to think SBYNews' many accusing postings over the years, and the hundreds of unfriendly comments by viewers left a feeling of skepticism on the part of the BOE. This may have played a part in no news release. Either that, or Joe requested no attention be given to his good deed. Joe did a very nice thing helping both children and parents involved. Like most I believe publicity is not the reason for or even expected when one chooses to help those in need.
