Officer Robert E. DaFonte

Cadet James D. Watts
DOVER, DELAWARE  Two members of the Dover Police Department were killed in a single-vehicle crash west of the city early Sunday, authorities announced.

The crash happened about 4:05 a.m. on a sharp curve on Hazlettville Road east of Nault Road.

Officer Robert E. DaFonte, 23, of Hartly, was westbound driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler when he failed to negotiate the curve and went off the south side of the road and down an embankment. The driver’s side door of the SUV struck a utility pole, Delaware State Police said.

The Jeep overturned and ejected Cadet James D. Watts, 22, of the Camden-Wyoming area, who was a passenger in the right-front seat.

Driving drunk it sounds like, but let's not let that whisper out for our two "hero's"...

I have never heard the sound of drunk driving, is that music or a noise of some sort? As far as the hero's, it mentioned two members of the department. Amazing how we read the same thing and each take away a different story. So sorry for the loss of two young men. You are rather awesome to judge another, I thought that was the work of a supreme being above me. I won't get ugly with you reference your comment because again, not my place. You can imagine what I think of the vile comment though.

I guess we'll never hear if alcohol was (or wasn't) involved, like we do with all other fatal accidents.....

If it was you or me we would be crucified for driving foolishly, a shame they died but they are not saints. Young men who made mistakes.
