Mountaire Selbyville faces a nearly $40,000 fine after OSHA inspection

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued citations and a $40,000 fine for Mountaire’s Selbyville poultry processing facility for five s violations after a worker lost a finger.

OSHA’s inspection began on June 3 after Mountaire reported that a worker suffered a finger amputation while operating a packaging machine.

Inspectors found serious violations associated with electrical and process safety management hazards, and deficiencies in the procedures meant to prevent accidental machine start-up or movement, known as lockout/tag out, a contributing factor in the amputation.

Well good. Some karma has finally arrived at that plant. Not really one of the issues I had hoped they would get punished on but I'll take what I can get.

Wish they would look over Purdue plant and those chicken houses.

Chicken houses are independently owned and operated, Perdue only has guide lines and recommended procedures these owners are to follow. They are not under the control of Perdue for safety issues!

The standard procedure will be an appeal, with a very large reduction in the amount of the fine. And then the company will get a ten year payment plan to pay off the reduced fine. This is the TYPICAL way OSHA fines are handled. I have experience with these things and know what I am talking about. $40,000.00 is just to get the company's attention, and is not what they will end up paying.
