Fairmount to get last of the $3.8 million in Sandy money, Crisfield gets nothing

PRINCESS ANNE — The last of Somerset County’s superstorm Sandy funds totaling nearly $3.8 million will be applied to the decommissioning of the Fairmount wastewater treatment plant and the extension of sewer lines through Manokin to link the system with the Westover sewer.

The Dec. 13 vote by the County Commissioners was split 3-2 and came a week after a work session where the board received information about storm surge protection projects, drainage improvements, street repairs and sewer upgrades for Crisfield, in addition to the appeal by the Sanitary District to apply the entire grant in Fairmount.

“All of which are very important projects for the county,” said County Administrator Doug Taylor. “The gravity of the issue is there are not enough funds to cover all of the projects.”

The Sanitary District estimates replacing the Fairmount plant to enhanced nutrient removal (ENR) status would cost $6 million. By taking it out, upgrading pump stations and running a force main 5½ miles up Fairmount Road the price tag is very close to $3.8 million. It also extends sewer service to Manokin plus picks up leachate from the landfill that is currently being shuttled by tank trucks to the Princess Anne treatment plant.

GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's what you get when you people in the Lower County elect Randy Laird and in District 4 Jerry Boston bolstered by the District 1 seat held by Mathias. I hope there's NEVER another cent spent South of Westover because of the stupidity of the voters. This IS NOT WANTED by the voters in Manokin as in the end this will put a financial burden on the old and disadvantaged they don't need or want.
One of these days you dunces at the polls will realize that the three above HAVE NO ORIGINAL IDEAS and couldn't manage a sewer plant, even one of their own. I hope Jay Tawes and the Crisfield revitalization crew can see just how much the three above care about a backward town lead by a backward Mayor and City manager get from the County for all their trouble. I'm a Crisfield taxpayer along with the County tax I get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR. What a bunch of countrified rubes you guys really are.

There was really nothing done for crisfield..the goverment low balled all the amounts for damage..then asked us to take out SBA loans rather than give us aid..the houses that were built in town were for crisfielders and cronies..one house was a wreck before the flood and the person got a whole new house!!! Now to top it off they want to steal what's left from us..it's sickening!!!

Crisfield's share was used up renovating the projects. Town will never get anywhere when a third of the properties pay no tax. Supported by a dead industry. Tourism won't work with a state run marina not managed by true industry professionals.

The water plant in crisfield is a mess. Bought a windmill that rarely turns, water coming out of my hose had soap bubbles in it half the time. And sometimes the water has a yellow tint.all the plumbing in my house is six years old or newer.so why give the money to Westover when crisfield needs to hire someone who can regulate the quality of the water. Also the main pipes are a hundred years old almost. Maybe they should.replace them.It seems Westover doesn't want water help anyway.

See what I told you. 5:08 is so far behind he/she doesn't know that Mathias 'CRAIG' holds the seat for District 1 in THE COUNTY. You can bet they're a voter for the three I mentioned. I'm selling my place and moving to Worcester. They have SOME grasp of what the World really is over there.
