Shock Chart Reveals Number 1 Item Bought With Welfare Money Is Soft Drinks

Food stamp recipients aren’t buying necessities, and there’s government research to prove it.

CNS News reported that the No. 1 commodity bought by United States citizens using food stamps in 2011 was soft drinks. In addition, the amount spent on those soft drinks totaled $357,700,000 at only one “leading U.S. grocery retailer.”

On the other hand, citizens not receiving government assistance bought milk as their No. 1 commodity.

The study, based on food purchases at one unidentified food retailer in 2011 and released by the Food and Nutrition Service, revealed some other harrowing statistics.

“About 40 cents of every dollar of food expenditures by SNAP households was spent on basic items such as meat, fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs, and bread,” it said.

However, “another 20 cents out of every dollar was spent on sweetened beverages, desserts, salty snacks, candy and sugar,” items that are not necessary in daily life, or even unhealthy.

There's also cases of bottled water - which subsequently end up being sold on the street individually.

We need to change the SNAP program to emulate the WIC program, administered by a panel of nutritionists and economists, so that we the people - who pay for their free stuff- have a say in how it's spent. Poor people have the worst eating habits, which results in higher medical bills, that we have to pay more for later. it's a never ending cycle that can be changed now that we don't have a knucklehead in the White House.
Personally, it really ticks me off seeing a person at the seafood story buying expensive seafood and pulls out a SNAP card. I make good money and still think twice about- tilapia or rockfish. They don't have to, because it's NOT their money!!

I for one wonder why our (State) Government needs to advertise FREE stuff form the SNAP program. It's all over OC buses. but why?

The news just stated that there are 33,000 people above the age of 104 in the United States. However, there are 96,000 people receiving Social Security checks who claim to be 104 years of age and above.
If my math is correct, about 63,000 people are receiving SS checks who don't deserve them. Congress, are you listening?
