Comcast fined $2.3 million for mischarging customers

NEW YORK - Government regulators are fining Comcast $2.3 million, saying the cable giant has charged customers for stuff they never ordered, like premium channels or extra cable boxes.

The Federal Communications Commission says the Philadelphia company must clearly ask customers before charging them for new services or equipment and make it easier for customers to fight charges they think are wrong.

The agency says it's the largest civil fine for a cable operator, though likely not too great a financial burden for Comcast Corp., which recorded a profit of more than $8 billion last year.

That's a slap on the wrist.

A mere pittance to these people. The 'cost of doing business.'

It probably won't even slow them down.

They are sure one Company that deserves to be fine the maximum as possible. They are a monopoly in this county. When I Sent emails to both Wayne n rick neither one answered about them being a monopoly.

The country needs to allow more than one cable company to operate around here.

Away from this topic but locally effected don't buy into the latest round of Uprising church Haiti relief drive. The guy doesn't care about anyone or anything unless it has to do with him or his kud making a name for themselves through baseball. He's used this resource to pursue that dream but had it blow up in his face

read the fine print... when you sign for a deal for 2 years, you cant back out but they can raise price after 1 year

Can I get some of this? They kept jacking my bill with premium channels automatically without my ever wanting or watching them.

Where's my Jet pack?

Directv no longer does high-speed internet. Your only choice if you're in a "pocket" like me (1/2 mile from four surrounding streets that have Verizon AND Comcast) is satellite internet through Exede or Hughesnet. Pricing based on how many GB you want per month. Once you go over, they significantly reduce your speed until you "buy more".

Thats what i thought. Just wish i had better options thanks

I refuse to pay for what I didn't ask for, ex: the "new" sports package, The extension to another room. We were told there was no charge for that extension yet IMMEDIATELY were charged for it. We were NOT asked about sports pkg. yet automatically charged for it whether we want it or not...
That's 10.00 a month in additional charges, with taxes & fees for same.
I just deduct it from the bill. If they want to disconnect it...OK BY ME!
Internet is cheaper, anyhow, even if you have to pay a subscription fee.

Your "leaders" don't care at all that we have been getting cheated (and lied to, and stolen from) by this monopoly.

No one is getting a refund. The GOVERNMENT, however, just put another couple of million in their pocket.
Do YOU feel vindicated? Feel like you got some "justice"? Think Comcast feels bad??

Lol.

Keep cheering.

Another government institution that is a little slow in reacting to the needs of the people! Folks have been complaining about Comcast for the last 15 YEARS.....the FCC just found time to act....AMAZING

not to forget out city council has approved their rate hikes, EVERY time they ask for one. boo, hiss!

Sure, the government decides the company must pay THEM in "fines" for money they literally stole from the citizens.
