SALISBURY, Md. (AP) — A professional single-A level hockey league has expressed interest in expanding into Salisbury.
Federal Hockey League Vice Commissioner Andrew “Sarge” Richards says the league, which is in its seventh year, is looking to broaden itself geographically and thinks Salisbury would be a good fit.
Wicomico County Parks and Recreation Director Steve Miller says the county is just beginning to examine the possibility of having a professional hockey team.
Richards says for a team to survive, each game would generally need to see 1,200 to 1,500 attendees at about $10 per ticket.

Are there really enough people in this area that are interested in hockey and would be willing to pay to see a game? It seems like more of a northern sport.
554-Just look around and recognize those #8 Capital jerseys. It's an NHL team that's sorta local. Kind of a big deal. Despite the fact that the Caps do nothing but choke.

As a person that has attended more minor league hockey games then National League Hockey in his life time, I would attend at least a half dozen games a season provided the ticket prices were right.

that would be the answer as to whether it is sustainable or not.
The old mall property would be better with an arena built at the 3/4 mark app 200 yards from the Twilley Center & in the direct center of the property between Civic Ave and St Albans Church Rd.Lots of parking would be available.The Civic Center is not configured properly for ice hockey.

The Civic Center is a hell of lot better then the old American Royal Arena that hosted the minor league Kansas City Blues of the Central Hockey League back in the 1960 and 1970s. It had columns behind the board and the first row of seats were 15' from the ice surface. They filled the joint up most games.

No there isn't enough people. And yes it is more of a Northern sport. Remember when Ed Urban was on the Parks and Rec's Commission and pushing for indoor hockey? Where is Urban originally from?

Wow!! Bring on the Hockey!! Sand Box John is going to set the County on fire with his six games attended. Heck, that's enough to bring in all that revenue to pay off Culvers Scholarship program. Wow, 6 whole games!

It's going to be a drunk fest for the few hockey fans that will be there.
Now we will have to pay $600K a year for that failed scholarship program and then all the renovations and equipment for a failed hockey league. Yep, we gunna be paying that debt for many years to come.
