A Viewer Writes: Comcast Bill
Do you know that on your Comcast bill there is a fee of $3.00 for a Regional Sports Fee? If you don't watch sports or want this it doesn't matter because as I was told it is so the local channels could air these events. So if you don't watch or want it to bad you still have to pay for it. Yes it is only $3.00 but it is still not right. Added it up $36.00 a year. That may not be a lot to much but for someone that does not watch sports it is not right. I have been a Comcast user for over 25 years and never had this on my bill before until 4 months ago. For 3 times when I called about this I was told it would be taken off. Well I got my bill today and it was still there. When I called I was told that there was nothing I could do because it came from corp. yet I could not get a name or phone number to contact anyone. So there you are. Just suck it up.

I can't remember the exact explanation but I think they won a ruling to include that as well as the ever increasing broadcast fees. Do what I do, every year call them and ask to cancel your account. They'll put you with a customer retention person and you'll at least get a better deal. I called a few times and ended up getting a year free of HBO
Cut the cable.
Their rates are totally made up. NEVER pay what they say. I've been a customer for 8 years with only internet and never pay more than $39.99 a month (also never rent their modem buy your own). I also have BLAST internet which is 150 mbps.
Don't accept their nonsense about new customer verses old customer, or promotional rates.. it's all smoke and mirrors. Tell them you will switch to their competitor and they will drop rates like crazy.
On that $3 fee... they may tell you they can't remove it. If so, demand a $36 credit added to your bill for the year to offset it... they CAN'T tell you they don't have the ability to issue credits.
They may tell you they can't do it, if they do insist they transfer you to their superior. OH! Also if they say there is no one else to send you to... ask them if they are the CEO of Comcast, and if they aren't then they most certainly can send you to a superior.
One last thing. Always get the name and employee id (if you can get it). Give them your contact number and ask them "if for any reason we are disconnected or the call is lost is there any reason you would not call me back immediately". This gets their attention.
When you can't get results, feel free to just hang up and call back. That or go to the local office.
Tell them that the longer they wait to lower your rate, the more their intended higher profits are getting eaten up in man hours as you waste their employees time. Eventually, they will break.
Cut the cable, get out of the house, and go live your life.
Directv has the same fee - "Regional Sports Fee $3.63/mo.
Similar situation is being an employee of the Maryland State Police. Even if you choose not to be a member of SLEOLA (State Law Enforcement Officers Labor Association), a "service fee" is still allowed to be deducted from your bi-weekly pay. There is nothing you can do to stop it. What ever happened to democracy?
Comcast are pirates in command of a monopoly. They also own NBC so all the drivel, spin and distortion there are blessed by Comcast.
Comcast's local monopoly is courtesy of the council and executive, spurred along by 'free money' collected by Comcast for them.
Been an ex-customer for a number of years.
Imagine from every cable subscriber...36 a year. I still HATE the cable company.
