The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration are asking citizens to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs during the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, April 30, 2016 from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m.

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office along with the Ocean Pines Police and the Ocean City Police have placed a permanent drug deposit box in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office in Snow Hill, the lobby of the Ocean Pines Police Department and the Ocean City Police Department for your convenience to dispose of unwanted medication. These drop boxes are available for your deposits of unwanted medications 24 hours a day seven days a week.

The Maryland State Police also will be accepting unwanted medications at each barrack in Maryland and locally at the Maryland State Police barrack in Berlin.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

Nationally, 700,000 pounds (350 tons) of prescription medications were collected from members of the public. When added to the collections from the previous Take-Back events, more than 5.5 million pounds (2,761 tons) of prescription medications have been removed from circulation.
