RNC War on Guns?

Ohio is an open carry state, but Republicans who support the right to bear arms- a strong majority of the GOP- will be unable to carry at the Republican National Convention. As CNN reports:

A petition to allow firearms inside the Republican National Convention in Cleveland has collected more than 22,000 signatures as of Saturday afternoon."Though Ohio is an open carry state, which allows for the open carry of guns, the hosting venue — the Quicken Loans Arena — strictly forbids the carry of firearms on their premises," the petition says. The petition's author, who is identified as "N A," asks the three remaining GOP candidates to ask the Republican National Committee to advocate for changes to this policy.

"In order to ensure the safety of your supporters, delegates and all attendees at the convention in July, you must call upon the RNC to rectify this affront to our Second Amendment freedoms and insist upon a suspension of the Quicken Loans Arena's unconstitutional 'gun-free zone' loophole," the petition reads.

The petition says Cleveland is a violent city and cites the threat of terrorism and all three Republican candidates' opposition to gun-free zones as reasons why attendees should be allowed to carry inside the arena.
This is all very true. Although Quicken Loans Arena is a private venue, the fact of the matter is Cleveland is a dangerous city, and RNC attendees who are forced to disarm may be prime targets for criminals. Moreover, this is a massive event. The RNC should use its considerable weight to seek accommodation for its attendees.

We've attached a petition, in addition to the petition attached to the CNN piece we've linked. We encourage you to sign both and let the RNC know how you feel.

Again, the RNC shows how far out of touch with the American public, Republicans in general, and, especially, those of the Conservative movement. That loud BOOM you hear is the sound of the GOP imploding.

I can't believe anyone actually thinks this is a good idea. Thousands of amped up Republicans with guns at a contentious convention. What could possibly go wrong? Thankfully the US Secret Service has already put a cork in this. No arena or venue where people under Secret Service protection are in attendance are allowed to admit guns. Period. End of story.

Rumor has it that a Liberal Democrat piece of scum started this petition hoping that an incident would occur at the convention so the anti-gun position could be advanced.

It will make it the safest Convention ever held if everyone is armed. Would you ever think of pulling your gun out in a crowd like that?

I'd think NOT!
