A few years back we fought a battle to close down the dump site on N. West Road operated by Dashiell, due to it being over the Paleo water channel from which we get our drinking water. As does the city of Salisbury. we succeeded and MDE with drew the permits.
Now Wicomico County has apparently lost their mind and are processing the paperwork for the construction of 13 Industrial Chicken houses right on top of the Paleowater channel on the corner of N. West Road and Naylor Mill Road.
Each Chicken House will be 600 feet by 60 feet.
There will be several massive storm water ponds needed for run off.
There will be over 2,500 tons of manure produced annually that will have to be disposed of somehow.
There will be almost 4000,00 square feet of agricultural farmland lost.
Why are we the public just now finding out about this. The comment end date that you can comment is tomorrow December 7th. Sounds like underhanded.
The reference number is MDRCW0243
I think it may be time to get the community to stand up and fight. We picketed before and we are capable of doing it again.
The contact information to send or call concerns is:
County council member Mr. Ernest Davis: 443.397.4247 / email edavis@wicomicocounty.org
For MDE go to: Https://egov.maryland.gov/mde/npdes/PublicNotice/Review/4751 to view the permits.
Thank you in advance for your support.

Does culver just have to say no?
Republicans be like Grow chickens Grow. That will mean jobs for the site planners, builders, equipment manufacturers, sales of skidloaders, trucker to haul feed and chickens and people to clean out chicken houses. You want jobs you got jobs. Stop whining.
The proposed poultry operation meets all requirements of the zoning code and any other laws. Are you proposing that Wicomico County violate the law by denying this operation?
7:57 it wouldn't be the first time the county did something against policy or the law.
It was okay when it was just Somerset county, but now it's Wicomico. Does that makes a difference?
If necessary, yes! Protecting the Paleo Channel is worth whatever fight is needed to stop this. The land is currently being farmed and that use makes sense. Additionally, that property is barely outside the city limits and the odor from these chicken houses would impact the nearby homes on both sides of the bypass.
Naylor Mill Rd is already a very heavily used road and additional trucks would simply add to the congestion. That intersection is not well suited to turning tractor trailers due to the nearness of the blind grade coming off of the bridge over the bypass.
Who owns the site?
Maybe the city is getting too close to the country.....Isn't there a dump over that way too? Can't smell much worse. We are sure glad glad you people left the clean, pretty, safe big cities to come here and complain about how make a living and put the chicken in the Chick fil A sandwiches and grocery stores. Maybe you could get off the smartphone and slow down when those big scary trucks are turning or there is a tractor/combine going down the road while you are trying to get to starbucks.

Agreed. Someone must not want more chicken houses next to them. Have you ever heard of Right to Farm?

Right to Farm! Get over it. You know it's not about the Paleo Channel. If you don't like it then MOVE!!
Maybe it is actually about the Paleo Channel.
8:48 wth is wrong with you? Got something against chicken sandwiches and coffee? Ever venture past the borders of the county?
NOT a good idea to put this over the Paleo. Your drinking water is going to go to Sh*t, literally.
Jobs are important, but so is clean drinking water. Yes, Bill Gates has put on a show drinking poop water, but do you really think Salisbury is going to treat that water as well as that, with that level of technology?
To quote Spock, "Highly unlikely, Captain."
10:37 Yes, I venture to my other homes in FL and central america. I like chicken. Build all the chicken houses you want. My house is in critical areas so none will be built near me and my well water is tested and clean. As for starbucks, that is for yuppies from the city and wanna be hicks. I bring my own beans back from central america.
What proof do you have that the Paleo Channel is at risk with this operation. Please explain , make a good firm legal and factual statement.
Did you know that there are already several hundred chicken houses sitting on top of the Paleo Channel. The Paleo runs for many miles and is the water supply for not just one county but others.
First it's the farmer who spreads manure on crops "poisoning" the water supplies for years, yet the Paleo Channel water remains clean. Now it's 13 chicken houses that must be kept up with inspections and cleanliness standards that you flag wave about!
Like 444 says; bring a good firm legal and factual argument to the table or STFU.
How big is 40000,00 square feet, anyway?
5 popping up on Snow Hill Road near Airport. Hideous site.

they are houses
Somebody has to feed the tremendous population of human beings. Don't worry. If ISIS and Obama have their way the population will decrease in short order. Then we won't have to build so many chicken houses. Seriously? These people are farming. Farming is what the eastern shore is all about. You complainers really should have done your homework before you moved here.
There are no zoning requirements to meet except 100 ft from property lines. That is the problem.
Stop eating chicken - boycott purdue/tyson etc. Stop going to chick a fil. That will showthem - lol. Somebody doesn't want a chicken house near their home. The author is quick to give out Mr. Davis' email but not his own.
Anon 742 this is the same site that used to have a processing plant there years ago.Corner Sn. Hill road and Airport Rd.
OMG!!!
How many of you have opened the link and looked at the permit???
The permitees are from Virginia (now) and previously from who knows where. And they have gmail addresses. No legitimate business entity or person uses gmail.

As far as the owner of the chicken houses not being from here: why would you care if someone on the no fly list has chicken houses here?
I grew up with farms all around me. I am used to the smell of animal crap. Its the smell of what comes out of idiots mouths that bothers me.
The largest grower in Somerset county is Asian and has been subsidized by the government from day one. He owns multiple businesses in the city like nail salons. He laughs at the people who work for a living while this great country he moved to is paying him to rake in the bucks. It is no surprise to me that this party would be from another country. This government loves giving money away to every nationality other than American Vets who wait years for a doctors appointment. Let the ball keep on rolling and let this country subsidize its own demise. It is hip deep into it already.
your all idiots.
It has nothing to do with Smell or chickens or farming.
I grew up here .
It has to do with common sense which it appears is lacking from most responding. you don't put that kind of facility directly over a valuable natural drinking resource and not expect problems. MDE came to their senses years ago and shut down the dumping facility across the street and it was lined and supposedly safe. Some think stating facts and opinions is whining but they only show their own ignorance as to what is taking place.
You don't dig your latrine uphill from your drinking water source.
You don't drink the water downstream from the cow pasture.
There's a reason for this.
