Tax credit to lure public safety workers to Baltimore

BALTIMORE —The city is trying to lure police and firefighters who live in surrounding counties back to Baltimore to live where they work.

The bait is an annual tax credit that's no small change.

Police and firefighters get paid by city taxpayers, but most choose not to be their neighbors. The tax credit is intended to change that, which one state legislator calls part of police reform.

City police and firefighters can't be forced to live where they work, according to City Hall. But the mayor thinks they can be persuaded. Thus, the tax credit proposal she announced Tuesday in a city firehouse with the fire and police chiefs at her side.

The credit is $2,500 off the property tax each year for any police officer, firefighter or sheriff's deputy who is or becomes a city homeowner.

Where is this money taken from since this Liberal Mayor and gang is requesting more Tax dollars? This is gross mismanagement of tax dollars.

So, they buy a craphouse and rent it out, and now they're "Homeowners".

Meanwhile, they still live at their same house.

Well done, Dem! More lost tax revenue...

It's not the first time that the liberal retards have tried this draconian legislation. They have now tried it in the Maryland legislature more than 3 times. First is HB965. This was sponsored by Shiela Hixson - and it would have exempted all Maryland school teachers from having to pay any real estate tax on their own personal homes. THAT'S RIGHT - YOU HEARD IT RIGHT - EXEMPT ALL SCHOOLTEACHERS FROM HAVING TO PAY ANY REAL PROPERTY TAX.

But no - that wasn't enough - the very next year they added Fire Fighters and Law enforcement in the mix - so then it was:
1. School teachers
2. Law Enforcement
3. Fire Fighters

What do I have to say about it - well for one - what about the Beauticians, Barbers, Plumbers, Electricians, UPS workers, are not their carriers also as important as the others trying to be exempted.

I say that those politicians seeking to exempt these 'Country Club' exclusions are actually trying to defraud the Maryland taxpaying citizens. What-a-shame.
