There is a vote that will be held SOON on transferring land ownership from the city to the county, to turn an old forest which sits over our towns water supply, in to ball fields. There is a chance that enough people express concerns city council members will reevaluate their current decisions. Joan Maloof explains," The “paleochannel” noted in headlines is an underground aquifer that provides most of the water to the city of Salisbury. Our homes, our hospital, our university and our businesses all depend on this precious resource. Today that aquifer is in good condition, with almost no contamination — but there is no guarantee it will stay that way. The soil above the aquifer is very porous, and what we do to the land will eventually filter down to the water. Even though clearing the forest and putting in a ball field meets all legal requirements, that does not mean it is the right thing to do. There are many other cleared areas nearby that can be used for fields. Do not remove one of our last remaining ancient native forests. Remember, (council members) you are representing ALL citizens in this decision."

Build the ball fields.
Yes, build it and they will come.
8:46 and 8:58, you need to stop. The paleo channel is much more important than any ballfield. Where do you think Salisbury's water comes from?
And this is why the country is in trouble. This really should be a no brainer but the uninformed and non-thinking public just want to see some kind of improvement. Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie is all they think. Not about something that once gone cant be replaced. For God sake build it somewhere that wont destroy our #1 most precious resource.
The ignorance being displayed by everyone involved in this project is staggering.
The forest there is no different than any other forest in Wicomico County.
9:06 probably the water treatment plant, mine used to have lots of chlorine, tested at about 130ppm
this is outrageous. How many ball fields are there already at the parker athletic park on Naylor mill Rd? There has to be 6 or 7? Do we really need more. Save the paleo channel people!!
Why don't they repair the existing fields first? My understanding is that some of them are in pretty bad shape.
in the southeast, the greenway corridor extends along the south prong of the Wicomico River and Beaverdam Creek. Beginning at River Walk Park, this branch of the greenway includes Municipal Park, the Salisbury Zoological Park and ends at Schumaker Park. In addition to two wells located in the paleochannel (known as the "paleo wells"), the city of Salisbury has nine wells located along the banks of the South Prong of the Wicomico River (Beaverdam Creek) from which potable water is obtained. These wells are known as the "park wells."*
seems most of the bury's drinking water comes from near the zoo yuck lots of geeses and feces
Building these ball fields will not hurt the "paleo channel".
Quit hugging that tree.
There are currently 4 softball field and 2 soccer fields. More are needed to be able to host athletic tournaments more frequently (good for the local economy). Anyone wonder why the Fruitland Falcons are buying up all the land around them?? It's about hosting youth sports tournaments, big bucks.
Salisbury built a dog park over "paleo wells" along the banks of the south prong of the Wicomico River.
the athletic complex has 9 fields and 2 of them are in halfway decent condition
The bypass was built over the paleo channel.
Build it somewhere else and they will still come.
No more fields. They will only be built for one reason. That is to bring in more softball tournaments. Please don't allow this to happen.
to bad! build them. they already built numerous gas stations over the channel so I don't think a few ball fields are going to have that much of an impact. Find something a little more important to cry about ok? WAAAAAAAAAAAA!
i vote yes. it is not like there will be buildings built or factories. it will GRASS PATCHES with a little metal fencing. go look at a satellite image, there are plenty of trees. Trees do NOT filter water, the earth does. and ball fields will not hurt filtration.
I didn't hear a word about Falcons buying more farm land.
Just give it away! Who cares? There's nobody caring enough to find alternatives, so hey, give it away! Too late now, the Salisbury elite has already decided, so tonight's meeting is an idiot's movie to watch!
Doesn't she live in a county owned property on the river? What's her rent to the county? I wonder...
Build a bigger jail.
Leave the forest alone. Build the fields some place else.
The word is in! No new fields at naylor mill.
I am surprised none of the rec and parks elite were not there speaking in favor of it. Kinda weird, Tree huggers out in full force and not anyone from that department to take a stand.
Makes me think what kind of leadership is in place there now.
There are no more elites left in parks and rec. Wish has gone to work for USSSA and now with this they're gone too.
How many of those Freebirds that spoke actually use that trail. How many of them Freebirds that spoke actually live in the city and are city tax payers.
