A Viewer Writes: Shopping Carts In Salisbury

JOE - Something I see often in our Presidents Neighborhood area are store shopping carts, I am sure their purchase is not cheap. People it seems around here think that they are in the stores for their taking, to take items to their homes and just dump them all over. I have known neighbors around here in the past that have done this their is currently a Dollar Store one at the corner of Washington & Jackson that has been there for 2 days incase the store is interested. Is there something that can be done about the returning of these, either by the stores when notified, and perhaps when the police see them being used have a fine for those thieves, it could generate $ for the police dept and remove one more blight item one at a time.

we had a giant food cart in our yard. and we are a good 5 miles from giant. it was like brand new. called giant, they picked it up, but took them 2 days, and some guy from giant in his own truck came
over. said they cost about $150.00 each.

Another place were I counted 21 carts lined up was in Fruitland , they were all from Walmart. All were around the low rent district.
All black residents .
But you think about it , screw those people , they will never change
once a thief always a thief . I don't care if they steal carts , however , the store should. They pay for stuff with your dollar and steal stuff with the stores dollar. Obama , you da man !

Anyone seen outside of parking lot with a shopping cart should be arrested. We know they don't own them, just more lazy, entitled people.

Police Depts don't get money from fines.

People just don't care, carts are full of Obama food though !

There is a gone, but unless you are om delaware it is a state violatoon, no a city ordinance, so the money goes to the state fund, no the police department or city. U fortunately wrangling shopping carts probably I don't on the priority list of any police dept. in the US right now.

10:54 could you please proof read before hitting publish? Your post is a mess to try and figure out what you are saying.

"How else am I gonna get this stuff home"? is the typical response 10:37 when confronted by police or store personnel.I reported 3 carts once lying in the stream behind the pavilion at Leonards Pond.I called the store, not the police, and spoke with the manager. He never thanked me for reporting the stolen carts and never sent anyone after them.At that time they cost the store $275 apiece,or so I was told.

In the long run the store doesn't pay for the carts. We do with higher prices.

Its the thugs to lazy to carry there dood home.

Funny thing is there All around the area of SPD and they do Nothing.

Stores often sign lease deals for carts with national "cart companies" who sell ad space in addition to providing the store name and colors. These deals even include annual maintenance and repairs. So the reason these stores don't care where they end up is they are not there's to begin with and they really don't care!

I just came back from a visit in California and a store solved that problem. OF THE PARKING LOT THE CART WHEELS WERE LOCKED AND WHISTLES WENT OFF. IT WORKED. Maybe somebody would tell GIANT STORE about this.

Another store has an even better solution. Aldi's has a cart corrals. You put a quarter in a slot to get the cart, and when you return it to a corral you get your quarter back. It eliminates the need for employees to be wasting their time chasing carts when they could be doing something much more constructive. It also cuts way down on cart theft. Anybody who returns the cart gets the quarter.

I am sure loosing a quarter is no big deal over the price of a taxi to those taking the carts.

10:54----Are you a Common Core student?

10:54... He has 15 carts in his yard right now. Uneducated, ridiculous people!!!

As some have noticed, many of these carts are found in low income neighborhoods. Low income people have money to spend for their needs, regardless of where it comes from. WalMart is more than glad if they spend their money with them, and push their goods back home in their carts, and avoid the cab fare. Many low income people use the carts to get their goods home, as they often have no transportation. Get off your holier-than-thou attitudes people and have some compassion for those who are just trying to make do. The stores don't mind (low income people's money is just as good as yours, to WalMart) and the carts usually find their way back, one way or another. The poor can't sell them to the salvage yard, as they won't accept them. And the poor have no need for them once they have taken their goods home to be consumed. This is a non-issue to anyone, except WalMart and other cart owners, and they don't care. Those carts were removed form their premises by SHOPPERS, just like you and I. Only we have transportation and don't NEED to take the carts home with us.

3:08 Sorry we apologize we thought theft was still wrong. Really really sorry didn't know the law was changed.

Anonymous said...

It would be nice if some of those low income shoppers would actually take the carts back on their next shopping trip, instead of abandoning them wherever.

I have noticed that the obama crowd that does not have a pot to piss in show up at walmart this is why all these cab co are in the slumsbury.

3:08 Their money is as good as ours because it IS ours!Taken against our will by the government to transfer to others.Let me tell you,the people on SNAP because they are "poor" are eating way better than anyone I know.Whats a cart, when illegals and lazies are transferring the funds taken from us workers to Walmart at a rate of $800 per month per cardholder.

Anonymous said...

3:08 You are the one with the holier than thou attitude. Oh show compassion my foot you loser. Stop with the preaching and think-I know it's hard but do it-for once. No one would have a problem at all and this wouldn't even be a topic of discussion if the carts were returned after being taken off premise.
And no kidding this is common in low income areas-Einstein. You want to know why. Because the residents of these areas are lazy no good bums with zero sense of responsibility or respect for anything. This is why they are poor and why their parent and grandparents were poor and why their kids and grand kids and future generations will still be poor.
I have zero compassion for anyone who doesn't respect something that doesn't belong to them and if you do, your morals are nonexistent.
People like you are huge huge problem in this country. Making excuse for bad behavior is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself. But I doubt it. People like you lack any sense of personal responsibility whatsoever and are a putrid stain on civil society.

Since you don't seem to mind that they are stealing, how about letting them steal your car so they won't have to use the shopping cart. I'm sure your insurance will pay for it.

Those small shopping carts have the misfortune of being great laundry carts as well. One can find them around college dorms and apartment buildings.

3:08 is the epitome of the US's dumbed down 'education' system.
No thinking skills much less forward thinking skills.
It's just beyond asinine to say the problem is Walmart's and the cart owners. If 3:08 had a functioning brain they would understand that lost and damaged carts results in Walmart or the cart suppliers having to spend money on more. This results in higher prices for consumers because if 3:08 thinks for one second they are going to eat the costs, then 3:08 is one ignorant fool. One ignorant fool.
This not only affects everyone it especially affects the low income who then are forced to buy less because prices are higher.
Please 3:08 BEFORE you ever open you mouth in public and say such ridiculous things THINK otherwise people will know for a fact that you are a foolish uneducated moron.
The irresponsibility of the 'low income' is exactly why the rich keep on getting richer and the low income continue to wallow around in the cess pools of poverty that they themselves created. Stores are going to raise prices, cart manufacturers will prosper and the 'low income' and 3:08 continue to sit their with their finger shoved up their butts wondering why they can't make ends meet.
I am so sick of stupid people like 3:08!

6:45 PM and 8;12 AM

I love it! I was wondering how long it would take for my post to lure you guys out from under your rocks. As long as your have yours, screw everybody else. Even though you come out and post, your minds are still under the rock. Why don't you just propose that the government kill all the poor people? Or maybe its just black people that you think should be eliminated so that they don't inconvenience you and everyone else that YOU deem worthy. For you to make assumptions about my educational level says much more about yours, than it does mine. As an anonymous poster, I'm sure you will claim to have PHD's in multiple fields, but we all know that that isn't true either. Your view of the world and social issues is shallow, and it shows. Thanks for taking the bait! Too bad we can't see who is showing their "true" colors.

Anonymous said...

4:12 PM And you don't break any "laws"? I doubt that is true. So you say breaking a law is "wrong" as in, morally wrong? Then so is speeding, double parking, lying on your taxes. But when economically disadvantaged people (poor people to you) take a store provided cart to take something home, out of need, you say they are wrong. I don't see any stores bringing any charges against anyone over this, so, if a tree falls in the woods when no one is around to hear it, does it make any noise? This is a science analogy, please don't spend too much time trying to figure it out.

6:55 PM Its not your cart, and its not my car they are "stealing". I don't believe they are stealing anything. They just use the cart to take transport their goods to their home, and they are done with it, and leave it where they unloaded it. No different than you taking your goods to your car, and then leaving the cart in the middle of the parking lot because YOU are too lazy to return it to the rack three parking spots away.

Anonymous said...

12:14
You are warped. If they remove the cart from the store property without permission that is stealing. NO way around it. I guess you are ok with someone stealing other things from the store......well because they are poor. Where does it end? How much can they take before they are held responsible for their actions just because they are "poor". If they came to your house and took your lawn mower to cut their grass and didn't return it would that also be stealing or is it just when they steal from others that it doesn't concern you?

Anonymous said...

12:27 This subject has nothing to do with "stealing" from me, or you, for that matter. It is your WARPED inference that a shopping cart has something to do with stealing from me. You are a cold-hearted SOB to think someone should be put in jail for using a shopping center's cart to take their stuff home, when they have no transportation. No one is saying these people are carting off stolen goods from the store, now are they? That's a giant leap in your skewed thought process that goes from using a store's cart to take their purchases home, to being okay to just stealing the stuff they cart away. BTW, they do not need YOUR permission to use those carts however they please. I don't see any store personnel chasing them down when they see them leaving the premises with the carts (yes, the parking lots all have security cameras) YOU have issues, where there are none.

You've been listening to too much Donald Trump. The way you think, he must be your hero.

Anonymous said...

12:27 you have an issue probably one of many. Taking something that does not belong to you is stealing and Webster states"to take and carry away without right or permission", that does fit the definition look it up if you don't believe it. Poverty and low income do not go hand in hand with the right to take something, dispite your slanted opinion stores do not expect this or want it as it doesn't give you the right to because you purchase items at their stores so therefore you are "entitled " to take something not sold there! I will bet you are one of these entitled people who thinks because things exist and the stealing maybe easy pickings it's the store's fault. And maybe the police can't make money off stolen carts, but it would save in the long run on us taxpayers that obsorb your thefts. I hope one day all of you are arrested, if you don't have transportation you can get a ride with a friend, or use the transit buses, or share taxis with others like you.

Taking a cart the store bought to take your store bought groceries home (or to your car), is not stealing. They are not keeping the carts for any other use, and they are not selling them for a profit. It is not stealing, period. They are using the cart for its intended purpose, the shoppers convenience. They are done with the cart as soon as they get home, just like you are done with the cart when you get your goods from the store to your car. They don't have a car to take their goods to like you do. But you can't, and will never see the difference. "Stealing", get real. No one is going to charge anybody with stealing a grocery cart to take their things home. You can't, and the store won't. Get over it.

I KNOW what stealing is and its not stealing unless the owner says its stealing, no matter what Webster states. You are not the owner and you're not the manager of a store with shopping carts. If you were, you won't be calling your customers "thieves" just because they use your carts to take their purchased goods to their nearby homes. The businesses are located in those neighborhoods exactly because of their proximity to the low income housing. Without coming right out and saying it, your racism and bias are clear for all to see.

Anonymous said...

8:32 I knew sooner or later the race card would present it's self and you have done that, to call other's racist when you throw the word out makes you the racist. And to clarify the response " it is not stealing unless the owner says so is wrong. I called the Walmart in Fruitland and was just told by management" that it definitely is stealing and it comes out of their profits and then gets passed on to the consumers!" So there you have it your racism and bias is there for everyone to see !! Get off your soapbox thief!
