BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Shot 20 times by fellow officers. Now the family of a Baltimore City police officer asks a jury to hold the police department responsible for his death.
Derek Valcourt spoke with family members of the fallen officer about the justice they are seeking.
Attorneys for the family of the fallen officer are trying to convince the jury that the officers who shot him acted recklessly. The other side is trying to convince the jury that despite the tragic results, officers followed their training and were only trying to save lives.
City crime cameras captured the melee outside of the Select Lounge night club in January of 2011. That’s when Officer William Torbit, dressed in plain clothes with only a badge hanging around his neck, was shot more than 20 times by fellow officers in what police labeled a terrible mistake.

Seems to me, the bad cops executing the good cops!!!!
NO wonder good cops are scared... I am, just for a routine traffic stop... I am more likely to die by a cop than a TERRORIST!!!!
that just shows you how easily they can and how much they want to kill you, that being cops....
He was wearing plain clothes, was being beating to and on the ground, opened up on the perp and got himself shot...
this shows you that even if you are not a cop, but a regular citizen, and you conceal carry, and you open up to protect yourself, you will be shot instead of the perp...
Just like when a criminal breaks in your house, gets hurt and admits he broke in, and can sue you for himself getting hurt...
Twenty times?
Trigger happy, shoot first mentality.
When the police show up, watch yourself. Even if you're innocent. And wearing a badge.
Shows the fact that cops wear military clothes for one reason. To identify each other. Why? Any one not in these clothes are considered the enemy. They are trained that everyone is a threat except your fellow cops.
Mothers don't let your babies grow up to be cops.
When a black cop is murdered by a criminal in the line of duty, why don't we ever hear of his family "demanding justice" for him and marching and protesting?
