LOS ANGELES -- Officials have given final approval to an ordinance that makes Los Angeles the largest city in the U.S. to gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
CBS Los Angeles reported the City Council voted 12-1 in favor of the increase Wednesday and forwarded it to Mayor Eric Garcetti. His office says he plans to sign it Saturday.
The wage hike received lopsided majority votes from the council last week and in May despite complaints from the business community.
"We are already seeing the fruits of our labor as our own state and other cities nationwide begin exploring policies to increase their local minimum wage," L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson said.
In L.A., 800,000 people live below the poverty line and 500,000 workers earn the city's current minimum wage of $9 per hour.

Fools shooting themselves in the foot again..this only adds to price increase in all products. why not work to increase our buying power with a lower cost of living
What a bunch of idiots! So to pay the wages, everyone will need to charge more, and everything "moves up" so the wage will result in NO CHANGE in the standard of living for the burger flippers.
No water , no more fast foods.
How else to pay for the Union Fat Cats?
Watch for businesses to close "en mass".
If you work 40 hrs a week you ought be able to live. Many of these people work way more hours than 40 and can't live.
9:14 cost of living decrease solves that problem. Higher min pushes the carrot a little closer for a little bit then back out of reach.
These people are not represented by any union. I don't think you understand how "collective bargaining" actually work.
Why $15? Why not $50!
Then everyone will be rich.
9:14 Nobody ever said you were supposed to earn a living on your own with minimum wage. If 2 people both work minimum wage jobs and share a place together it is doable.
Liberal policies are why they live in poverty.
The only industries in California that will survice is Movie and Porn.
