I have found a lot of NOI members to actually be very aware of problems in our society that most others don't bother to pay any attention to. There redoric is usually over the top and makes many people shut down quickly, but they were speaking about issues back in the 70s and 80s that you didn't start hearing about in the main stream or even in libertarian circles until around the time of 9/11. Though it's not shown in the military style garb shown in the picture, NOI members are usually wearing a suit and tie, and are active in their communities. They reach out to help troubked youth and try to educate them on real societal problems and things they can do to better their life situations.
That being said they do not have the ability to look inward to criticize and hold accountable their own leadership. Malcolm X split with the NOI when he learned that Elisha Mohamed and Louis Farrakhan were molesting little girls. He was going public with this so Mohamed and Farrakhan had him killed by MEMBERS of the NOI. You can find YouTube videos of Farrakhan saying outright that if Malcolm X had stayed in line and kept his mouth shut he would still be alive. Malcolm X's own daughter says that it was Farrakhan who put the hit on her father. They need to realize that their own leadership is just as dirty and vile as the government that they condemn.
