Obama supports reduction in military retirement pay

President Obama said Monday he supports the recommendations of a military commission that would reduce the size of traditional military retirement pay by about 20 percent and offer a new defined-contribution benefit for troops who leave before 20 years of service.

In a letter to congressional leaders, Mr. Obama said the proposals are “an important step forward in protecting the long-term viability of the all-volunteer force, improving quality-of-life for service members and their families, and ensuring the fiscal sustainability of the military compensation and retirement systems.”

Mr. Obama said he has directed his advisers to refine some recommendations, and that the White House will report to Congress on any proposed changes by April 30.

When I decided to make the Navy my career I was promised a 50% pension after 20 years and free health care for life. What happened?

we need a reduction to zero of elected official retirement pay, along with a reduction to zero of elected official medical coverage and we need that now.

all savings to go to the military men and women.

In his letter - replace the word 'protecting' with 'decimating' and you'll have a true statement.

This jerk is a moron - obviously never served - always partaken of the service.....his own should rise up against him!

Maybe congress, senate and president need to take a reduction first. Before our service people who actually earn their retirement.

what you folks fail to realize is what the government giveth they can also taketh away! Hence protect your liberties! don't ever give them over to the government even for peace and security. It's only a matter of time before they screw you and you have no rights at all! Protect and cherish you rights as an american and tell the government to go to hell! They send your sons and daughter off to do the bidding of the wealthy and powerful, They don't give a rats ass about you or your family! only keeping what they have!

I forgot that, in addition to increasing EVERY fee, fine, surcharge, levy, and tax (they can't do anything else --- they SPENT every dime they could find for the next FIFTY YEARS!), they would go for citizens hard earned pensions.
GUARANTEED that THEIR pension suffers not....
And these "representatives" (in name only) had NO PROBLEM sending our kids to die or get maimed for life, but when it's time to do what was PROMISED ( lol-- a politicians "promise"), it's all now "negotiable".
There should be a summer day this year when citizens assemble in D.C, each person with 12 feet of rope. start the hanging and do not stop until every politician is swinging.
That might drive the point home to future wanna-be "leaders" (and none of them deserve that moniker).
Think YOUR pension is safe?
obama has ALREADY SAID that he thinks a lot of Americans have way too much in savings and pension benefits and has proposed plans to TAKE it and establish a national retirement account. Even though you worked and sacrificed when others just had fun, they DESERVE some of your money, because, well, they just do.
Pony up. But don't let any of this alarm you.
Keep cheering!!
