Vehicles, Buildings Hit By Vandals
Several buildings and vehicles were hit by graffiti vandals last night in downtown Berlin in the municipal parking lot off Main Street. Some of the damage is pictured here with the racist and inappropriate images excluded. The damage took place a couple blocks from the Berlin Police Department. Mayor and Council need to wake up and spend the money needed on public safety, police, fire and ambulance and quit worrying about purchasing the land from Troy Purnell and Gee Williams for the skate park. If the park is needed partner with the county, they already have the land near the Lions Club for a park. Tired of all our taxes going up for useless crap. Ride around this weekend and continue to look at the flooding but we are paying the rain tax Gee wanted. WAKE UP TAXPAYERS--remember they have these meetings coming up for the future and they have over SEVEN MILLION in unreserved funds that can be used for public safety and fixing the ditches, etc. lets not let them waste it on a new park and to bail Purnell out of the property that he cant sell and to buy Gee's mother's house and property, etc. That is their problem not the taxpayers problems.
This sucks. My car was hit. When are you going to start paying more attention to this kind of thing going on right here in OUR back yard - West OC & Berlin??? It's getting BAD!

There is a town meeting tonight show up and tell them that you demand more public safety. They are talking about using the casino money to buy the property from a councilperson. Previously it was stated the casino money would be used for a new police station. They have cut millions of dollars from the fire company and wont hire more police officers. But they want to keep making the town bigger and line the pockets of council people with more development using tax dollars---there are these planning meetings show up to these also and voice your opinion. We got more taxes put on us with the rain tax and they certainly did not give us a refund when they cut the departments budgets and they have piled up millions of dollars in the bank. The town administrator has a brand new vehicle riding around and one of the explorers goes all the way to Delmar each day not sure who that man is driving it. WAKE UP TAXPAYERS!!
And stop ignoring the open air drug dealings going on east of 113.
As many times as we go to Berlin, we never see a policeman.
Speed through Berlin on Rt 113; then you'll see where the Berlin Cops are stationed.
Demand that Salisbury grant concealed carry permits to residents. Then watch the crime numbers fall!
When the punks that did this finally get caught (pls indulge me there...im being optimistic) They will go to court and the judge will send them home without and punishment. This tells the punks that they can do it again. I say let the judge make them pay a hefty fine to the owners of the vehicles/buildings involved. Then make the punks clean the damage off the cars and buildings. After which they can sit in the Berlin jail for 30-60 days. Maybe they will think twice before they do it again. But who am I .... just someone who is tired of multiple offenders

Maybe if Berlin had the skate/bike park for these kids to go to, they wouldn't have to hang out on the street and get into trouble like this.
Berlin after 5pm can be pretty boring, especially if you are a teenager. Don't knock important projects like the activity complex. You may not have any use for such facilities, but there are many in Berlin who want/NEED this to happen.

the project may be needed but don't line the council members and mayors pocket to do it. partner with the county and use the facilities that are already off the tax records and expand that the county has a park and rec department don't duplicate another in Berlin and raise our taxes put more EMT and police people on the street.
Berlin has alot of issues and one cop working, doesnt make sense

I guess its too much to ask the parents to check the hands of their children for paint. This looks like the work of 12-14 year olds and obviously not honor roll students.

Make a skate park on the bad side of town where the hoodlums live anyway. This was racially motivated. Let's burn down stores now and destruct property. I'm sick of the double standard. Parents need to watch their damn kids. If Berlin didn't OVERTAX their community, HIRE OUTSIDERS for town jobs, and only APPOINT people to positions that support their needs, then MAYBE they would have more decent families living in this NOT so cool town and get rid of the trash.

On the matter of funds usage. Why the hell are we building a new library when the kids coming out of our schools can barely read? You want to talk about a waste of funds. Put the money in our Educational system, and pay the police to do something besides sitting on 113 trying to nab anyone going a fraction over the speed limit. What? Are there no crimes going on in Berlin. There are plenty, plenty of crimes, they just are covered up so the cool town doesn't look so uncool. Meanwhile, everyone and their brother was given liquor license. Do you really need to get liquor from a baked goods place, a shop or anywhere else? I guess there are not enough bars on Main Street, I can count at least 6 restaurants, a liquor store, a brewery and a wine bar. Do we really need to buy clothes and alcohol at the same place? They will give anyone a beer and wine license in this town, maybe that's why we have so many alcoholics and DUI arrest. And that's just the locals. Don't EVEN get me started on the massive Heroine problem Stephen Decatur High School has. Wake Up, stop giving your tax dollars to the Town of Berlin for Bullshit. Demand more law enforcement on real crimes.

Cutting the fire department is the first place they should cut. It's a volunteer fire department remember. What does Volunteer mean? It means freely offer to do something. So raise your own money for free.
It's time that the Counties around here start taking over the fire departments. If they resist then cut off all funding and let the next due respond. If that doesn't work, put them out of business and start your own FD. You will be able to buy their equipment very cheap.

I bet you can guess who wrote this and it wasn't an honest tax paying citizen.
We don't need a fricken skate park. That makes too easy for the trash to offload their breed at these places so they don't have to parent.
