Today's Survey Question 1-25-15

With all the problems at night at the Mall in Salisbury,
how many of you will continue to shop there at night?

74 comments:

Anonymous said...

Will only go during weekdays.

Anonymous said...

will def be more cautious of what is going on there now. sad i left with my 3 small kids just a few hours before that happened.

Anonymous said...

Those who depend on taxpayers for free food, housing and all the rest need to let us support businesses at the mall.

Anonymous said...

After not being welcome because they forbid me to enter with my concealed handgun I'm done with them all together. This is the start if their demise plus anything you buy there can be purchased elsewhere much cheaper. Crime is down is The Bury!

Anonymous said...

I don't shop there anyway. No need to go there day or night.

Anonymous said...

what mall? We have a mall?

Anonymous said...

I had thought about going there to see American Sniper, but waiting for pay per view seems to be the wiser choice.

Anonymous said...

I hardly ever go, but definitely not at night

Anonymous said...

I'm not going there after dark.

Anonymous said...

I never did shop there But I will go now,,,,,Bring it on Boys.

Anonymous said...

Were never going there...In fact avoiding Salisbury as much as we can.

Anonymous said...

Malls are a dying breed of business. It is the same everywhere in America. It was a fad that lasted for many years , but , it's over for them.
It is an easy place for the hoods to enjoy their lifestyle.
Hey 12:32 , you got it right , boys , boys and more boys.
Men , I don't think so !!!

Anonymous said...

If I go and that's a long shot! I'm packing heat and have been since they built the place! Oh and there are little signs that say no, but since when do we worry about that knowing the dirt balls don't!

Anonymous said...

What I don't buy online I get in Delaware. I have no use for the Mall or Salisbury.

Anonymous said...

I can purchase anything I need that is available at the Centre, just go to Amazon.com. Most likely I won't get stabbed of shot or beaten.
So long to commerce most any place in Salisbury. I wish I had a closer place to buy groceries, I would stop that too.

Anonymous said...

Live here. Shop dine and work in Delaware . If I could at least break even on the sale of the house I would have been LOOOONNNNNOOOOOGGGGGGGG GONE! !!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Haven't shopped after dark including for groceries for several years. There has been unreported crime (by the media) in parking lots for years. Area is not safe. I welcome concealed carry people to do so and hope they are everywhere. Law abiding citizens need the protection from the thugs that have taken over Salisbury and surrounding area. Too many people who are takers and not makers thanks to bad policies by elected officials.

Anonymous said...

Shop online and with your savings buy a gun and protect your home because when they are done ruining business's in the area they will need to rob your house.

mdsenior said...

If i remember correctly, this is what started the downfall of the old Salisbury Mall on Glen Avenue.

Anonymous said...

Stuck here; thought to do the right thing: buy a house, improve it, keep it neat and clean, and now its worth far less than I paid nearly 15 years ago...Doesn't take Matlock to figure out why no one is flocking to the 'Bury...

Anonymous said...

If my wife wants to go shopping at night I go with her. There is safety in groups. Salisbury is no longer a safe place to live.

Anonymous said...

They advertise that they really like patrons to be harmed by denying access to law abiding weapons carriers. That policy says bring on the thugs and lowlifes, decent folks stay away. Besides not much is offered except high prices and rude employees in all stores.

Anonymous said...

I go to either Sears, or Dicks sporting goods. I drive and park in front of the store. I usually never go in the Mall. There is no reason. Usually overtaken anyway by gangs walking inside. Who wants to put up with that?

Anonymous said...

This will be forgotten in no time by most people.
(This is the Centre at Salisbury not the Salisbury Mall. The Salisbury Mall today is an empty lot across from the civic center.)

How many remember the shooting at the Centre over 20 years ago the first Christmas it was open?

I remember people coming into the Salisbury Mall which was still there but near gone wanting to sightsee where the shooting took place. It wasn't here it was at the Centre we told them.

People are strange but not so dumb that they don't know when the danger is over.

I don't go to the Centre much but I will not allow this event to alter my life day or night.

Curfew at Dusk.

Amen 12:05,
I was surrounded by four thugs a few years ago, I had my small child with me. Mall security did nothing, They did not back off until I started to pull my gun. PS : Two of the four knew I was a off duty cop. I told my elected boss, but nothing was done. I've moved on.

Anonymous said...

Don't go to alot of places during the day. Very few at night and the centre is one of them.

Anonymous said...

I don't shop at the mall anymore. All the stores seem a bit to getto-fabulous. They have nothing that I am interested in buying. I would rather take a day trip and go to arundel mills or Rehoboth oulets.

1:47 and others. The problem I see here is that this is NOT a one time issue.

Last weekend we reported TWO incidents where fighting was involved.

The trend is not only getting worse, it's getting extremely expensive.

I truly believe if it wasn't for Salisbury News putting this information out there, the rest of the Press would have ignored it.

We have placed them in a position that IF they do not expose what is really going on in our communities it will continue to prove they are covering things up.

Take Labinol, for example. One year ago they had 950 people working there. During the past year they let go 300 people and got a grant to hire 400 new people, nothing mentioned in the Press about that. However, they did come out and say there are 650 people working there.

OK, they then started saying around 500 people work there, dropping the numbers trying to save Ireton & Mikulski's a$$es. Now guess what they are saying. Now they only say hundreds of jobs.

Some have tried to come on here and put up comments like this was blown way out of proportion. REALLY? You see JT, I care about my Wife and Family and I want to know what these kind of things are happening and I firmly believe 99% of my viewers want to know too.

For far too many years I have been up against business owners and politicians begging me to stop exposing these kind of things in Salisbury. REALLY? Did it not happen? Did I make the whole thing up? Some, (and we all know who) are now threatening to go to my advertisers again and get them to stop advertising here.

Well, IF the business people of Salisbury can't realize by now just how HUGE we are and can't see the benefit of advertising here for only $100.00 a month and want to get screwed by advertising elsewhere, so be it. I didn't do this for the money.

We are exposing the truth and we have encouraged the rest of the media to start telling you what's going on. Mind you, they are way too late and now that they see my numbers they are squirming, as they should.

Are we saying, STAY AWAY FROM THE MALL, no. Is it always Salisbury News fault that crime is going through the roof, no. Yet other Bloggers and politicians want to point fingers at us as if it's all our fault. Are people really that stupid and gullible?

Go ahead Salisbury, vote for yet another non business person who has no experience and watch where the next 4 years brings you. In fact, I'd say, (like I tried to warn all of you) Salisbury is too far gone to turn back around.

Anonymous said...

I stopped going past SAMs club at night a long time ago. I won't go to the mall again.

Anonymous said...

Just came from there (simply because it was the only place I could get what I needed today). First time inside there in something like 2 years. It is nothing but a ghetto. RIP Salisbury Mall, Boscov's looks like a 'going out of business', Sears has been going out of business, the rest of the places, who knows? Who goes in to them?

Anonymous said...

Joe, if the rest of the media had been posting the "truth" about just how bad the crime is, maybe, just maybe, something could have been done earlier. To sweep it under the rug and criticize you for posting the truth has accomplished nothing but allowed crime to flourish while you were bad-mouthed for standing up for the people. Their attempts to discredit you have only made you prove you are MORE credible and your blog more popular. So in reality, their plan against you has backfired and the public has paid the price with high crime that they wanted ignored.

I do consulting work for local law enforcement and EMS - I have inside information about this and other issues - I get gas for my wife if she needs it after dark and we do not shop locally (mall, groceries, etc) after 5 pm - sad state of affairs that it has come to this.

Anonymous said...

I am keenly aware at the shooting in the mall on Christmas Eve many years ago. I also remember the young lady who was murder in the old mall's bathroom.
Just last night (before I came to Sby News and saw last night's incident) we were taking with some friends about the mall's new gun free zone designation. 4 of us all were on the same page and said we will never step foot in that mall ever again. It was even brought up about the Christmas Eve shooting. We are all people with pockets full of money to spend and if the mall isn't going to respect people with the right to carry right then we don't need them.
No one should let the mall dictate to us, whet they morally believe in. They best keep in mind that the public doesn't need the mall, but the mall needs the public.

Anonymous said...

There need to a rule/law that you can't just drop your kids off at the mall and leave them there all night! Any kid under 18 needs to have an adult at the mall at least, if security comes across a group of kids they should be able to have their parent there in 5 minutes if asked to do so. But they will also have to get real security not people who my 5 year old could take down! It's the mall not a zoo make the animals go home and that goes whether they are white, black, latino or Asian doesn't matter to me anyone who acts the way some of these kids do are animals in my book.

Anonymous said...

Salisbury will end up with another rubble pile for a mall.

Amazon Prime Baby!

Anonymous said...

Ireton, Day and their pals think the "'bury" is so cool. They have and are continuing to turn Salisbury into 'the hood". The Centre at Salisbury has been trending down in its quality of stores. Low class clothing. Even Macy's doesn't offer the same quality that you can find at Annapolis Mall. Stores cater to their market and what does our market say about us when we are the "'bury". Such a tragedy for those who wanted to raise their kids in a safe, small town environment.

Anonymous said...

What a bunch of sissy's. You guys are going to stop going to the mall because of a fight. This crap happens everywhere, all the time. Stay in your houses, do not go out, and live in fear for the rest of your life.
Not my idea of living!

Anonymous said...

No teens allowed inside after Sun down without someone over 21.

Anonymous said...

Direct correlation,
Obama has empowered these thugs.
He has encouraged them.
He is them.

Anonymous said...

First a fight next comes a shooting...this is not a random, unusual act but a progressive pattern of the out of control behavior of young thugs who answer to no one. The leadership of Salisbury and the County has FAILED. What will it take for people to be fed up? The city of Salisbury has destroyed Wicomico County yet the dumb voters in Salisbury keep putting the same people back in office. There may be hope for the County with Culver. He needs to take the City leaders to task for the dump they have made out of the place. All those pretty boy young turks can add all the bars they want, they are not fixing the real problem. It won't be long before the thugs take over their bars too.

This has nothing to do with anyone being a "sissy." It has to do with having expectations and standards. We should expect that we can go out and not have to deal with out of control thugs while shopping of all things.
And yes if you have any sense you will stop patronizing the mall and when it starts hitting them in the wallet see how quick they will get things under control.
People like you need to start standing up for something and not brush everything aside with the excuse that this happens everywhere. That's a cop out. Little problems become big problems due to attitudes like yours. If you want to live in the ghetto then by all means move to one, but most people don't want to and want something done about crime and incidences such as what occurred last night. It's a quality of life issue.
If anything you are the sissy because you refuse to recognize a problem and aren't willing to do a damn thing about it.

I recently visited a friend in Missouri near Joplin. We went shopping and if there was 50 people in the store 20 of them were carrying side arms. I felt very comfortable and as I found out later the violent crime rate there was next to nothing. He wants me to move there in the worst kind of way, no taxes on Pensions, Property Taxes very low, if, and its a big if I can get my home sold, just break even, I am gone from the Eastern Shore and State of Maryland by Summer with much regret I might add. There is no logical reason the Mall/Centre should be caught up in a situation where the customers be apprehensive or in fear to go shopping no matter the time of day, who's fault is this, nor should anyone who can lawfully carry a concealed weapon be denied access. What a shame Salisbury has gone to the dogs, by the way Mr. Mall my handgun is like your American Express Card I no longer leave home without it.

Anonymous said...

You Amazon shoppers suck. Local businesses employ local people. You are part of the problem of our sluggish local economy

Anonymous said...

3:37 I remember her too. It was for $5 or so. I think she worked at friendlys and was killed in their bathroom. We need to keep this from happening again. Please people, elect the righ people. People that will do the correct thing. No democrats or RINO's.

Claudia Balzac said...

They can ask you to leave if they see a handgun, but if it's concealed, and it must be, it's a moot point. If it's a right, it doesn't matter what an arbitrary sign says. They wouldn't dare put up a sign forbidding visitors to wear a cross around their neck or a yarmulke. They could, but nobody would follow that "rule". And it would understandably create a lot of negative publicity for attempting to deny someone their constitutional rights.

So screw 'em. If you have a CCW, and you feel it's necessary to carry a legal firearm for self-defense, get familiar with and abide by the actual carry laws. Getting professional gun handling and safety training is highly recommended, as is spending some time at the local range practicing. Then do what you have to, but no more than what you have to do, to keep yourself and your family safe.

Laws are to be followed. The rest...are just "guidelines".

Totally agree with 4:33
What a bunch of SISSY'S,.., let your FEAR of the 'could be' and 'might possibly happen' dictate your lives.
Stay in your homes and never come out,..,
And certainly do not move to any other major metropolitan city,..,
Heaven forbid that you come to OC in the summertime when its the height if the 'money making' season.
Stay in your houses and let LIFE pass you by.
Teach your children to fear the unknown, and scamper thru life with huge trepidation.
Good plan for the future of Salisbury.
Oh yeah, with this kind of mentality, there is no future for Salisbury.
Booooooooo!

5:54 - While attacking Amazon shoppers you might first want to gear up these Local businesses to carry the merchandise shoppers are looking for rather than their favorites, at reasonable prices (the owners of a 2,00 sq ft store shouldn't be planning on taking annual month long cruises on the profits, and have policies and people in place that aren't aimed at driving customers away. I for one have tried shopping locally only to not find what I was looking for after going to several shops, been either ignored or treated rudely by smart mouthed "local" kids (have even gotten the answer "if you don't like it come back sometime when the owner is here"). Compare that to a couple dozen clicks and 1 or two days wait you'll see what a sham your whole concept is.

Or illegal

FYI.. The girl that was knifed at the old mall was a college student, as was her assailant. The story told by the media at that time was a confused girlfriend/boyfriend (or maybe a wannabe boyfriend) situation. Never did hear a definite reason for the altercation.

Anonymous said...

1:29 I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat.

Anonymous said...

We need a citizen security force patrolling Wicomico county.

Anonymous said...

4:33 and 6:27 ... both blind idiots. Time to take the town back over fools. Thugs and Gen'ys trying to run a small city.

Anonymous said...

And it happened in the old mall as well 6:27,and we didn't scurry off and hide.Way too much fear in Salisbury.

Anonymous said...

There is a new movement afoot people. Get with the new wave. If you don't absolutely need it....don't buy it. If you can make do with what you have...do it. It is now cool to barter...exchange...avoid malls and save every dime you can. The movement started in the cities where there is already too much waste but it has quickly spread out in the country. I love the movement because no I stop and rethink every purchase and end up using things that are stuck away in the attic instead. It is neat to re-purpose things and you find that you have more time with family and friends. It is a cool way to live. Try it.... you might find that you like it.

"Heaven forbid that you come to OC in the summertime when its the height if the 'money making' season."

The big difference is that the violence and thuggery that happens in OC is either at or near a bar and generally after midnight. Most family people are in bed or at least home by that time and are not subjected to the stupidity. Anyone out after midnight needs to be self aware enough to not get put in a dangerous situation or pack heat.

I personally don't care if thugs beat or kill each other but normal citizens should not have to be exposed to their violence and stupidity.

If an animal attacks you on your home turf you hunt it down and gut it.

Anonymous said...

This is for 4:33 and 6:27...

I have lived in THREE of the top 10 biggest cities in this nation.

I never knew a SINGLE person who was the victim of a crime greater than a car or house egging.

HERE, in just a few years, I know several who have had cars and homes broken into, been mugged, a lady whose business was robbed at gunpoint, people "muscled" out of the aisle at the Centre, and although I don't know him personally, Ted Shea, the former county administrator or something who was shot nearly to death at the SECU ATM at the outrageous hour of 8:00 at night (i.e., not exactly late hours to be out.)

While I don't live my life in fear, this is enough to make ANY rational person think about where they are going to go and when. My guess is, you are young and don't have kids. Try being a single mother and having to take young kids out to do things after dark and having to worry about this.

Yes, I would guess you are young, male and single. Or young, male and a DINK. Your dismissive attitude toward people have reality-based concerns or fears is reprehensible.

And FWIW, Mr. Big Men on Campus, I bet if we were together and confronted with a dangerous situation, it would be ME doing the a**-kicking to save your cowering butts.

Bottom line, boys, and I do mean BOYS, for a town its size, this place has a HUGE amount of crime. I felt, and statistically was, safer in my big metro areas.

Anonymous said...

You are an imbecile and will probably end up a victim because you like the night life, you like to boogie... THEN you will be crying and demanding the elected officials do something about the crime or you will file suit against whatever business you happen to be in or around for not providing for your safety. STHU with your version of psycho babble. There is no future for Salisbury as long as it is being run by imbeciles such as yourself.

Anonymous said...

Salisbury is suffering from its own fear of anything new and different.
Its OPENLY racially divided, and the 'powers that be' do NOTHING to embrace the TWO colleges in town.
What city has 2 colleges, with students who have their parents money to spend,
and yet, does sooo little to embrace them, or offer them activities, shopping, etc to do ??
I saw ONE billboard, just one, mind you,
that welcomed the college students back in September.
I do remember the old Salisbury Mall that curled up and died after the sad stabbing of the young girl.
Most people that play the 'fear card' on this blog,
RUN BACK to that time period and continue to re-live it, again and again.
If you live in the past, you can't see the future.
Salisbury COULD BE ripe with opportunity,
but the mentality seems to remain, 'live in the past'.

Anonymous said...

6:27 is a grown woman who actually works at the Centre.
Everyone should ALWAYS be aware of their surroundings,
but not allow fear to dictate activities 'after dark'.
The 'fear of the unknown' is rampant on this blog.
Truly sad for the future of Salisbury

You sound young. We all were young once. As we have gotten older some of us also have gotten wiser.

I used to walk around Philly all hours of the day and night just exploring. I wouldn't do that now unless I had an UZI with me.

Someone mentioned standards. I remember those as well as manners. Both of which are hard to come by nowadays.

One other thing I have learned is, to make change sometimes you have to start with yourself.

"All the trouble" doesn't faze me. I'll shop there at any time that's convenient for me.

They are at it again tonight. All over town!!

I dont want to be one of those that say they will not go to a business after dark. But I am unable to just sit back and listen to it and not have it affect me. I do almost all errands by myself, regardless of whether it is day or night. I always have. The way things seem to be going I will end up making less trips to the stores and restaurants, which leads into the fact that if others are the same as myself then profits will end up going down. I knew Salisbury was getting rough but this is just crazy.

Anonymous said...

prefer shopping at the locally owned and operated stores out in the "hinderlands". haven't been in the mall for at least the past 4 years.

also like the internet and catalogs. oh well.

Anonymous said...

I'm done with the center, period. We need a police substation assigned there. The gangs and rude youth have made this once nice place into nothing but a hell for decent folks. Shame on the youth and the parents of the youth for allowing this to happen. Maybe the center could look into having armed private security since the police are always never there or always late to stop the ruckus. We can't feel safe any more.

And certain people wonder why discrimination exists. LOOK AT THE FACTS!!!

6:55 Juzt to clarify, Heather Miller's murderer was not a "confused" college student, let alone a "boyfriend" of any kind.

David Boyd was a black chicken plucker, in his 30's, not a college student. He had been following Heather around the mall, bothering her and trying to corner her. She flled down the twisty little hallway that used to lead to the restroom there in an effort to evade him.

He followed her into the restroom where he stabbed her to death.

Hr had a long history of assault and violence.

Again I say check out the homicides in Salisbury that are cold cases. They were not all home invasions, you will be truly shocked.

Our home was broke into 2005 in broad daylight on a Sunday, we made a quick trip to buy Mothers day gifts. We have had 2 people walk into our house that we did not know, rare that our door wasn't locked. I was chased from the church across the street one night all the way to my front door. And yes I live in Salisbury.

Answer to question: H-NO. Enforce curfew for unaccompanied youth after 6:00 p.m. The mall cop on his Paul Blart mobile can see who's roaming around and causing trouble. Droopy pants are usually a give away.

Anonymous said...

I work at the Centre of Salisbury..Have done now for 14yrs..This city is getting rough but its not the buildings nor the businesses fault..its the law enforcement officials who do nothing to these punks who walk around with their butts hanging out and their smart mouths. Nothing you say to them will change it. I agree with a curfew not allowing them in the mall at all without a parent supervisor. If they have no money then they dont need to be there anyhow..its not a hangout..And for those comments on certain stores closing get that notion out of your head its farther from the truth..These stores are strong and thriving. Curfew or Crime? which do u want??

Anonymous said...

I went to the Annapolis Mall yesterday. It was packed to capacity! Salisbury may be dying, but there is a thriving economy in Annapolis. Also went there to shop at Trader Joe's. It's a shame I have to leave this area to find anywhere decent to shop. I did however notice that Radio Shack is also closing their store in the Annapolis Mall.

I haven't been to the centre after dark in years. I might go they once a year, if that much.
