A Viewer Writes: Question... Wicomico County District Court

I have gotten some recent reports that a "staffer" at the Wicomico County District Court has been taking speed camera defendants aside prior to the hearing, informing them that they have essentially no chance, and trying (apparently successfully) to pursuade defendants to drop their cases without a fight. If true, this would appear to demonstrate that the district court has essentially prejudged all speed camera cases en mass in an 'irregular procedure' outside the courtroom (which does not surprise me that much given that my own experience in other districts).

I know you ran a few posts about speed cameras in Salisbury, and I am wondering if any people have contacted you who are local to the area and might know more about/be interested in the workings of the local district court and whether they are actually granting fair hearings? If you are aware of anyone local who might be interested in helping us look into this please refer them to me, thanks.

Unfortunately, too many people wait until after their hearings to contact us.

Been there, done that! The judge HATES speed cameras! When you go in, all camera folks are dealt with the same. There is no one from the Balto company there to prosecute, and if you really study your ticket information and do the math, there's no way you can be convicted.
When I went in, all of us were acquitted.

Don't fall for it!

I had a state trooper tell me this before. I had a speed camera ticket and he told me not to even bother, I wont win.

Not surprised at all. Aren't the cameras provided by a private company, which requires a certain lwvt of "sales"? What a conflict of interest.

Get a speed camera ticket? Go to court to contest it. Plead not guilty. If the prosecutor tries to argue, state that you have a question for the officer who wrote the ticket.

Case dismissed.

Staffer gives good advice. It will cost you more if you walk through those court house doors.
