All EMS calls. this city needs to recruit and retain good volunteers instead of that fat lazy Rick Hoppes and John Tull running them off. What have they done to recruit volunteers? Absolutely nothing. Ocean City does a great job of recruiting volunteers.

Rick Hoppes and John Tull should be fired for not recruiting good volunteers. The volunteers should be up in arms about Rick Hoppes and John Tull trying to force them out.

Memo to Jim Ireton: Fire Rick Hoppes and John Tull or we fire you. Election 2015 is right around the corner.

No , and they won't get volunteers
because that wouldn't go well for
ALL THE NEEDS they tell the Mayor they require!!. Besides, no
one wants to work with those 2 worthless jack-----!!
Those poor pitiful babies!!!

This City could save Thousands
of dollars if they would get rid
of the main 2 trouble
makers there---Hoppes & Tull.
Arrogant Air Heads to say the least!

I have to agree with both commenters. Either clean up the fire department or we are going to clean up the Mayor and City Council Race.

Your call for the firing of Chief Hoppes and Tull is certainly baseless and unwarranted. The professional qualifications and experience of both men far exceed the requirements for the job. I'm not aware of any job where weight is a concern unless your a runway model. Chief Hoppes gets paid to run the business of the department. His weight has nothing to do with any function of that task. He would quickly acknowledge that he could stand to lose a few pounds, but it has never hindered his ability to do his job. Chief Tull is one of the finest Chiefs in the area as well as the country. He has served as the lead instructor for many of the classes for Volunteer recruits.I'm not sure what your association is with the SFD, but we appreciate the contributions of both men.
As for your complaint regarding Volunteer firefighters your quite out of touch. The department has a structured recruiting program that host an academy class every 6 months. This class offers instruction on the Firefighter 1 course of MFRI and the last two classes have been the most culturally diverse in the departments history . Each class has started with appx. 30 or more candidates and usually finishes with far less. Many candidates find out within the first month if they're cut out to do the job. This is a tough course and even tougher job that isn't meant for everyone. Once Volunteers hit the street its up to them to respond to calls. There is no shortage of calls in Salisbury and there has never been a better time to be a Volunteer. I'm not sure what your personal experiences are with the SFD, but you appear to be a disgruntled individual that couldn't cut the mustard or wants everything handed to you. You have to work in this department to succeed and Nobody is going to beg you to contribute. You either want to do the job or you don't. Its just that simple. Instead of blaming someone else you should take a look in the mirror and evaluate the person looking back at you.

It's honorable that you write a nice defense for a person, but we all know that is not how you really feel.
