Baltimore City Council Passes Amendment To Ban Plastic Bags

The Baltimore City Council has preliminarily passed an amendment to ban plastic bags Monday.

Initially the city considered a bag surcharge, but City Council President Jack Young via Twitter said, "Today we announced an amendment to the Bag Bill to ban, not tax, plastic bags in Baltimore City."

Jerry Jordan owns Eddies Market of Charles Village. He is against the City Council's legislation.

"The bag tax is an attempt to change people's behavior, but I think education of what to do with the bag is better," Jordan said.

You can educate all that you want, but there will still be plastic bags on our streets, in our trees and bushes, and in our waterways, courtesy of those who are too lazy or contrary to comply with that education. There are just too many people who don't give a rat's behind about much of anything except themselves, no matter how easy it is to behave otherwise.

The same goes for cigarette filters. I don't know where the idea came from that pitching those little plastic (yes, the fiber is a plastic product) to the ground wherever you are outdoors was okay.

How are they going to get their crack and heroin? Paper bags? That goes for the elected officials there, they are notorious users.

They could do better for the city by banning begging, panhandling, and bums.
