Should all police wear body cameras while on duty?

Yes - and the resultant video should be available for public viewing if you area subject of the video for law enforcement purposes - after that, it should be in the public domain for a limited time then destroyed!

It is for both the citizen and the officer!

Yes. For their protection as well.

Absolutely! They should also be trained in manners as well. Every cop out there is trained to be rude and disrespectful which is why we have the problems we have now. Some of them choose to carry that rudeness to far trying to gain respect they have not earned through force. Others of them choose to be pleasant and have all the respect they deserve. So yes a body camera on them may just change the way they PROTECT AND SERVE!

Yes and they should be made to pay for them just like other people have to pay for their own tools/equipment. If they are caught not wearing it there should be a fine of $100 for the first offense. $500 for the second offense. If there is an incident and they were not wearing their camera it should be an automatic $500 fine.

Yes. I realize there are bad police but i want protection. If they cant do their jobs effectively, this is good oversight.

Just the bad ones.

Of course. Like they said with the speed cameras. If you are not doing anything wrong you have nothing to hide. I agree with 7:53 they should have to foot the bill for their own camera. We already pay for all their other equipment. Let them pay for the camera.

If they do, then all citizens should be required to, as well. It's only fair, right? Idiots.

7:34 Asking in a polite way...have you ever worked in law enforcement? Do you know how it feels to be lied to all day long, everyday? Do you know how it feels to be stared at and avoided for no other reason than because you are wearing a uniform? These ladies and gentlemen put their lives on the line for all of us...everyday. They are human just like all of us and are capable of and do make mistakes. Cameras are a good idea and probably should be implemented everywhere. No matter what job you have. Just think of all the problems it would solve...Hey Joe did you drop that memo off at my desk? Sure did, left it there around 1 o'clock. Well its not there Joe...and I need it now. Well lets just pull up the headcam video and see what happened. Just think of the implications it could have to each and everyone of us...Hell it may just make honest people out of most of us. Lets go for it!
I'm sure we'd all like to have our every step recorded. Especially all of our government employees....damn...why stop there??? lets wire up all of our congressmen and women. Sure would make our Judges decisions a lot easier....but wait, we don't need it because everyone always tells the truth. Especially when there may be a big fat lawsuit payday involved.

Yes, so there is always solid proof of anything that happens and never a matter of he said / she said!

No.

Absolutely!
If you want to police me then every, I mean EVERY, aspect of your life should be public. That includes your home, your activities while at home, your activities on duty, your financial records.., EVERYTHING you do should be public record.

In reality it would also capture a lot of completely unwarranted BS they catch from a lot people. Certainly it would help keep the police on their best behavior, but what do we do when we can finally document that most of the problems arise from bad behavior of the citizens rather than the police?

I think its a great idea, but do we want more taxes to pay for it. These cameras and the hard drives, with spares will cost several thousand dollars per officer.

stupid 10:15

Anonymous said...

yes as long as the equipment is paid for by the taxpayers.

No!

This would solve many, many
problems out there!

Opps my battery aint working. Awww well.

IF THE SALISBURY COP HAD A CAMERA ON HE COULD REPLAY IT TO SEE WHAT A FOOL HE WAS/IS.

Anonymous said...

Yes. The Supreme Court has already ruled that there is no expectation of privacy in public. What's the worst that is going to happen...people learn the truth?

You all should educate your self on Marylands wire tapping laws!! Until they change those laws bady cameras on cops in Maryland is a waste of money sorry to break the news to all of you who know everything already!!!!

Video doesn't lie, but criminals and cops do. The truth my friends is always the truth. I wish some of the times I have dealt with law enforcement had been recorded.

Yes and make them have their car recorders on at all times as well. That car camera will stop a lot of .bs pull overs that officers use to make contact. Proff of probable cause. Not just the Leo's word.

Anonymous said...

Yes 12:23, people will finally see how bad police are treated by the citizens.

Anonymous said...

Yep, and car cameras too.

Stream it all to PAC 14!

Back them up when they are correct and counsel/discipline them when they screw up.

Dunkin Donuts would probably be happy to sponsor the channel.

Ok so they were a camera and something happens, they get placed on paid leave and investigated! Lets talk about the gps they have in there cars- it was suppose to slow them down now that they can be tracked, yeah right just a waste of money until they clean house from the top down. just saying

Comments like yours is what's stupid, pal.
If you have something to say, say it in sentences. Perhaps something like..,
If someone wants to be a cop and police the public, prove you're pure enough, prove you're worthy enough to do it. Just as I said earlier, show us you're righteous enough, show us you're honorable enough control patrol or guard us.
That's how you do it 10:48AM.

Sure it will cut down on these dishonest, frivolous and bogus law suits that cost tax payers a lot of money.

BOTH of the goofs at 8:47 leave out THE most important aspect in their zeal to show their disdain for police cameras's by suggesting CITIZENS wear cameras, too.
"We, the people" (you know , "citizens"??) do not get to KILL YOU, rape your wife, rob your kids, shoot unarmed children and women, shoot people IN THE BACK, put people in prison (and on death row) through false reports and testimony, all the while being excused and forgiven (99% of the time, if you're dumb enough to believe THAT police propaganda) by OTHER law enforcement officials (hello, Matt) and judges.
Maybe, just maybe, a camera would show that the police didn't need to pump 60 rounds into an already dead man, or shoot a kid with an air rifle, or rape a woman in handcuffs, or unleash automatic weapon fire in the middle of a city.
Why do the police snatch (illegally) citizen's cell phone video's? Because they did everything right and by the book?
Nooooooooooo........
And THAT is the very reason they resist the idea so much....

Screw their protection. Protect us from them!
