Putting his swimming career on hold after his second DUI arrest, Olympic champion Michael Phelps began a six-week program Sunday that he said "will provide the help I need to better understand myself."
The winningest athlete in Olympic history made the announcement in a series of posts on his Twitter account.
According to his representatives at Octagon, Phelps entered an in-patient program that will keep him from competing at least through mid-November, though there's no indication he plans to give up swimming.

Stupid white guy , at least he didn't knock out his wife or girl friend.
He said he was sorry the last time and he's sorry this time...he could have killed some poor soul on their way home from a real job and sorry just doesn't cut that fact...I have NO respect for him and I don't care how great a swimmer he is...it's all meaningless when you get behind the wheel of automobile and drive drunk...there is forgiveness the first time were human and we make mistakes. .. not so much when you do it AGAIN!
Rich and bored. You would think he would find something productive to do in his spare time.
He does 8:25, he drinks and gambles.
Wish him the best.
I'd rather get hit by him while he is drunk than a drunk driver on the shore with no money or assets to go after.
Maybe he should have a close look at his friends, none of whom apparently offer to give him a ride home when he's had a snoot full.
He should have joined the Moose or Elks... he would get 10 "Get out of DUI Free" cards upon payment.
