Home Depot says 56 MILLION payment cards have been affected by biggest retail security breach in history

The Home Depot believes that a cyberattack earlier this year affected 56 million unique payment cards as part of the largest retail security breach in history.

The Atlanta-based home retailer, which has more than 2,000 stores nationwide, says it has now eliminated the malware behind the attacks that took place between April and September.

It said it has also completed a 'major' payment security project that provides enhanced encryption of customers' payment data in its U.S. stores.

I got a card in the mail 3 weeks ago & cut it up.Not because I don't like the Home Depot because I do.I just couldn't afford another credit card. Now I am really glad I got rid of it.

I'm one of those 56 million and I'm POed to say the least. This is nothing short of corporate criminal neglect.
For a company of this size to fail to have their system/s pentested (penetration tested) and certified is totally unethical if not criminal. If these companies are going to use a digital infrastructure they damn sure should test their gear or go back to cash and paper.

56 million cards information hacked. Who could ever imagine Home Depot, or any retailer, having that many customers? Talk about "big" business.
