Laurel-The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle which has left a 74 year old Laurel, Delaware man dead this afternoon in Laurel.
Preliminary investigation has determined that the crash occurred on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at approximately 2:15 p.m. as Donald A. Elzey-74 of Laurel, Delaware was operating a 2005 Harley Davidson XL-1200 motorcycle, traveling westbound on Shiloh Church Road (CR74) approaching Chipmans Pond Road (CR465). A 2002 Cadillac Deville operated by Bart A. Bradley-29 of Salisbury, Maryland was traveling southbound on Chipmans Pond Road and had stopped for a posted stop sign at the intersection of Shiloh Church Road. The Cadillac proceeded through the intersection intending to turn left onto Shiloh Church Road, into the path of the westbound Harley Davidson. Elzey unsuccessfully attempted to swerve to the left to avoid the Cadillac, colliding with it in the intersection. After the impact, Elzey was ejected from the motorcycle onto the roadway.
Donald A. Elzey, the operator of the Harley Davidson suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Bart A. Bradley, the operator of the Cadillac was properly restrained and not injured.
Preliminary investigation has indicated that Elzey was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in this crash.
Shiloh Church Road was closed between SR 24 and Chipmans Pond Road for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
Troopers continue to investigate this crash and no charges have been filed at this time pending the conclusion of the investigation

So sad. Sweet man. With breaking hearts he will be missed.
