Spying on students to keep them safe. When the new school year begins in two weeks, a Maryland district will be one of only four in the nation to use special software to track students' social media posts.
Washington County public schools plan to use the software program, Social Sentinel to track keywords that could indicate a threat.
If it catches keywords like "kill" or "bomb", the school will report it to police.

great so what happens when they voice they don't like the present administration or a certain teacher. Time for re-programming?
Not a fan of any type of spying but will they keep track of the bullying that can tear a person to suicide? Probably not
Wicomico has had this for 2 years
If I know this, I will spend my days f-ing with the system instead of being a student!
Child stalking.
whatever happened to TEACHING the students instead of spying on them and kicking them out because a pop tart looked like a gun to some ninny?
Yeah and how is there school thug program working out ??? Home school them unless u want them In a gang...
They want to see who is anti gov.
Really?? A school report on the atomic "bomb" will get you a visit from the police??? How about a report on the effects of a pesticide that will "kill" only a certain type of insect?
Are these wanna-be Nazi's THAT afraid of kids?
Do the police REALLY have that much time to investigate what will have to be dozens of "reports" of "dangerous speech"??
Concentrate more on teaching than spying. We have the NSA looking at EVERY single electronic communication done by every single American in the USA. They also look for the same (and many, many more) keywords.
Polish those swastika's.
Keep cheering the Brave New World.
