Why There Is No .22 Long Rifle (22LR) Ammo On The Shelves

While many reports blame capacity or a conspiracy theory, the real reason that .22LR ammo is short supply is simple - us.

Don’t believe that? Remember when .223/5.56 ammo was selling for $1.00 – $1.25 per round? Remember 9mm at ridiculous prices? That’s not happening anymore is it?

Why not?

Eventually, demand quit being the problem. The average consumer decided that they would no longer pay gouged prices for .223 and 9mm and within weeks that ammo was plentiful on store shelves at much more reasonable prices.

I will not pay more than $.05 per round, for .22lr. And, it is plentiful.

plain and simple you are an idiot... The problem of ammo is NOT just the govt buying it all up, but next inline after the govt is the police... And after them, we will get is...

SO in reality, ammo shortage is due to the high demand the govt and cops put on ammo on top of what we buy...

THE MOST IMPORTANT PART TO THIS is the fact that the LAST SMELTER OF LEAD CLOSED... NO LEAD SMELTER THEN YOU HAVE TO IMPORT LEAD...

The govt is using this as a gun control measure as well, no bullets no need for a gun right? exactly...

4:00 Thanks for reminding me of my idiocy. With your spewing fountain of brilliance, dearest sir, could you please trivialize yourself with some sentence structure. Although your mensa level experise stuggles to ooze through, it's sparkling clear, that the level of your extensive knowledge should not be wasted.

If you bothered to check, the smelter that closed, refined raw ore and supplied the auto industry. Doe Run has another facility about 30 miles away that does nothing but recycle lead products such as car batteries. This the MAIN supplier of lead to the ammunition industry. Sierra bullets is nearby just for this reason

When Walmart aint getting them for weeks at a time or guns shops not getting them for months at a time! I beg to differ with your analysis!

How come during this gun shortage I can find all the shotgun shells I could ever want? How come no one is hoarding them?

Or maybe just maybe like the border with an influx of illegals appearing all at once and no one noticing an armed invasion of Iraq with ISIS, it was coordinated this anti 2nd administration and senate with ammo companies! This administration is getting what it wanted ammo shortages and supplies dwindling; and the ammo companies like ATK are getting massive contracts while hey ship over $2 billion dollars to Iraq extremists or Syrian rebels aka AL QAEDA/ISIS/Warlords/freedom fighters/arab springers! Or burn old supplies while ordering new rounds in the billions for DHS and other agencies that fall into DHS!
