Many high school students in Maryland have been able to lighten their academic load during senior year by taking a break from tough math courses.
But that’s about to end.
Starting with the Class of 2015, 12th-grade math is required for seniors who are seeking admission to Maryland’s system of public universities. Separately, all students in Maryland will soon be required to take math every year of high school in order to graduate, a change that will start with next fall’s ninth-graders.re
The changes come from state law and admissions policies meant to increase rigor and better prepare students for college and careers.

But of course, they will have to "Dumb it down", for all the student athletes!
They're only preparing for all the idiots that Common Core will create ... they'll need the extra year to remediate all the damage!
And how many certified math teachers are out there waiting for a teaching job to add to the staff? What courses are available for the non-academic students?
My 12th grade son texted me the other day that he was out running some "arronds". Good thing he's required to take English every year since Kindergarten.
This is a school issue here.
Not a bad idea , now that we realize that half the population can't add 2 and 2 without a calculator. Dah!
