County’s Liquor Licensee Prices Competitive

When an Ocean City bar received its delivery of 107 bottles of spirits Tuesday from the Worcester County Department of Liquor Control, its tab was $2,025.08. If the owner had bought the liquor from wholesalers, the tab would have been $2,073.85.

“So it’s beneficial for them to continue to do business with the county,” said Robert “Bobby” Cowger, executive director of the Department of Liquor Control, last Friday.

The perception of some people is that the county’s prices are 20 percent to 25 percent higher than the wholesalers’ prices, but that is simply untrue, Cowger said. In addition, this particular bar owner would have had to get four deliveries from wholesalers for the 107 bottles of liquor, but the county took care of it all with just one delivery.

Starting July 1, licensees may purchase wine or liquor from wholesalers or continue to purchase it from the Department of Liquor Control or they may purchase wine and liquor from both.

The new Berlin store is way cheaper than the independants in their old west OC store as well as the store in the middle of the disaster clean up people

Before Bobby Cowger took over the Liquor Control Board the whole thing was an embarrassment. Mr. Cowger has responded to the customers and restored real business principals to the organization. No, I do not work for the County nor am I personally acquainted with Mr. Cowger.

Wholesalers charge extra for splitting cases, so if you don't buy cases of everything you will pay more. Definitely cheaper for a Mom and Pop type place, of course the bigger places can afford to buy cases of everything. Most all brands come in miniatures, 100 ml, 200 ml (half pint), 375 ml (pint), 750 ml (fifth), liters and 1.75 ml (half gallon) A liquor business can have a huge inventory if they carry the most popular brands in all sizes.

Opps half gallon would actually be 1.75 liters

There is an obvious benefit from having a businessman in charge of this as opposed to a politician. Bobby knows how to please a customer and bring the business in as well!
