Larry Fitzgerald and a pal were moose hunting near Fairbanks, Alaska, when they came across fresh bear tracks in the snow. Three hours later, the auto body man had taken down the grizzly that left the prints, an enormous bruin that stood nearly 9 feet tall and earned Fitzgerald a place in the record books.
Although Fitzgerald shot the bear last September, Boone and Crockett, which certifies hunting records, has only now determined the grizzly, with a skull measuring 27 and 6/16ths inches, is the biggest ever taken down by a hunter, and the second largest grizzly ever documented. Only a grizzly skull found by an Alaska taxidermist in 1976 was bigger than that of the bear Fitzgerald bagged.

Pretty grisly.
Why? Selfish of him to kill such a beautiful animal for only self pleasure. It served no purpose and speaks volumes to the type of person he is.
Hunting and using the kill for meat is fine. Killing simply to kill is ignorant.
when he can kill it with his bare hands he can brag. shooting is was pointless. killing with a gun is easy
Let me get this straight. Man with big gun stalks animal that has no gun or 4 wheeler, no cell phone or anything else man has. It survives only on natural instinct. Man gets "big rush" by shooting animal. Conclusion, man needs to be hunted. For the "rush."
To All,
That bear knew the game, and didn't get that old being stupid. And what part of the story said the meat was left to rot? I beg to differ. Ethical hunters always use every part of the animal that can be. If that had happened, Boone & Crockett would never give him a proper rating.
You all need to do your homework on animal harvesting. Too many grizzlies that size and you would be running to us hunters begging for salvation.
THINK.

"That bear knew the game" Huh???
You mean he knew he'd be stalked by a dumbass, stuffed and placed in macho man's den? Damn.
The best animals are removed from the gene pool by the dullest humans.
H
Bunch of come heres that don't hunt and want everyone to buy meat from the store packaged in plastic. You can keep eating that hormone laced meat. We will keep shooting deer/turkey/rabbits/squirrels and them tasty doves!

Maybe you should actually learn to comprehend what people are saying. Most of them said to kill something just so you can thump your chest and feel macho is wrong. Many do not have a problem with people that kill animals that they are going to EAT!
The weight of the grizzly was not mentioned.
thank you 9:57.
9:03 here. Wow, nobody hit the "More" button here and spout off like this is the murder of the century! lol, in lower case. You stalk up to within 20 yards (the length of your house) and call me a murderer? The bear was legal harvest for reasons of preserving the moose herd, which was the reason of his hunt.
Moreover, the higher reason for his hunt was to store meat for the winter to feed his family. This is more than extremely important in northern climes, it is actually necessary, unless one wishes to starve during the winter.
To all you vegetarians out there, please move to Alaska and try to grow enough in 3 months to last you the other 9...
Grizzly bear meat is pretty much inedible. There's not a reason in the world to kill one unless it's an immediate threat.
The extinction of species because of unbridled killing for pleasure has been repeated all too many times. Passenger Pigeon flocks used to darken the sky.
12:07 You couldn't be more wrong. This is in Alaska, genius. They eat EVERYTHING up there. This isn't in the mountains of western MD. That animal, more than likely, was divided out to many, many families, to help feed them over their harsh winters.
I love it when people post about naturally taking game, while they go to Sam's and buy their chemically enhanced chicken, and beef. Or, even worse, they're vegans.
You will be the ones who don't survive, if the world starts to crumble.
10:33 the even worse vegans will out survive people like you any day, even in alaska, ever hear of a greenhouse?
