A Letter To The Editor On "Rain Tax"

Joe,

This rain tax has me upset, and I will argue this all day and all night. It’s just preposterous! There is no basis for it, and no way any supporter, politician. Or anyone else can justify it. Here are my questions about it, and I want to hear answers from the supporters of this ignorant tax.

First, let’s just get to the logistics. Atlantic General, along with any Commercial structure built in at least the last 30 years have been required to put in place stormwater management structures that prevent any stormwater from leaving the property in a “100 year” possibility. They paid up to 20% of the project costs tp satisfy these mandates, and now the stormwater soaks into the ground and never contributes to a flooding problem.

Second in the big picture, we already have “Tax Ditches”. This begs the question as to how these ditches got their name. Chances are, there is already a tax assessed for the creation and maintenance of these ditches. Most don’t go anywhere, they merely perform the function of a stormwater pond and hold water until it soaks into the ground.

This is already a tax we all pay.

So, now, this brings us to the rain tax. A tax on the square footage of the impervious surfaces on our properties. “It will save the Bay”.

Supposedly, us sinners have bought houses that have roofs and driveways that somehow all flow into the Bay, and since we are all committing some sort of pollution crime, we need to pay into a fund that will “Save The Bay”. Dang, I don’t remember any of this in my real estate closing papers, but maybe the possibility of Ex Post Facto laws might have been in there?

Okay, so, I live on the Wicomico River. My gutters and downspouts are like everyone else’s, they run onto the ground. During heavy rains, some may run across the grass to the river, but is this somehow polluted water? Did God pollute it before He gave it to me?

Let’s assume it’s somehow polluted because I have a dog and he poops in the yard. Oh, God.

Scenario #2. You live in Salisbury, and your roof runs to the street, down the block, and into the City Storm system. There’s usually no fertilizer involve, but there it is. It happens.

Okay, NOW we can move on to the subject at hand, let’s create a rain tax.

Exactly where are the blueprints on the machine or procedure to stop the rain from flowing directly into the river which diverts into something that filters the water first somehow?

How much will it cost to build?

How many will we need?

What will these units cost to run each year?

What do they look like?

Who will have the first ones installed in their property?

What is the schedule for the installation process?

Will it be remotely controlled, or will I have to maintain it?

When can I expect to have one installed at my house?

Do you have any idea how you will accomplish this task?

So, I am supposed to pay an extra tax to buy something that will do nothing to solve a problem that I’m already paying you to do because you are not doing your job!

Give us money, and we will save the bay. How many years have we heard that old saw…

Is snow included in the rain tax? It has to flow the same place as rain when it melts, bend over here it comes!

Does this POS post help you all sleep at night, if so then STFU and go to sleep...

Clearly you can understand taxes and the minds of dumb politicians...

How about FOR ONCE we understand the minds of the dumb axxes who let these people make these ridiculous rules and taxes?

You ALL DO REALIZE IT IS NO ONES FAULT BUT YOUR OWN? for letting this happen, for just writing one dumb post after another that solves NOTHING...

And here you want to post questions tot eh nut jobs who came up with this stuff? what the hell are you thinking? you know dam well there is no motive behind anything they do but money, plain and simple just money...

These are ways for them to steal your money legally because these taxes or type of taxes have been around for years and no one questions them...

NO you all dumb axxes rather TALK ABOUT HOW OUT OF TOUCH politicians are and ACTUALLY THERE NOT out of touch, they know dam well what you want and don't... you all are to dam stupid to realize this and hence the problems we are having today...

If you want to fix this, start by fixing your self... Try taking action outside of writing some stupid post every other day... Because you offer nothing free to the freeloading suck bags, your words fall on def ears... So at this point you waste nothing but your own time writing about it and thinking bout it...

Face it, america has been taken over and It does not exist any more... You can live in your pipe dreams and think this can't or won't happen but it did and has...

The real problem here is Martin the Maniac and his band of communist followers. Apparently Martin the Maniac perceives himself as being above God because he has all the answers to the Bay's problems. Let's get some real fixing done by starting with that cesspool called Baltimore City which he presided over as mayor for several terms. According to Martin the Maniac, all problems can be fixed by creating new taxes. This communist governor is a bigger idiot than our communist kenyan king in Washington. By the way, how's that hopey changey thingy doing for everybody??? Have we had enough yet???

Just for the record, we don't all pay the taxes for tax ditches. Only those property owners who benefit from the ditch pay to maintain them.

What do we do about the rain that falls directly into the bay and it's tributaries

Boy alot of misinformation in one post. Take a chill pill and actually look at the evidence in a scientific manner. Not saying the policy is right. But the science behind how runoff impacts the Bay is quite sound.

You almost have a good point, 11:36. But the reality is that funds collected by a rain tax will do nothing to ease pollution or clean the bay. The money will either go into the General Fund to be spent on something else or, quite possibly, go to groups such as Chesapeake Bay Foundation or Waterkeepers. All they do with the money is use it to lobby and pay salaries for themselves. These groups have received considerable money in the past but I have yet to see any of them, or even contractors hired by them, actually doing anything to clean up waterways.

Is this the Gayor

Wow 10:29 please come down from the rafters with that rope in your hand. Things aren't that bad...yet.

Organizations like the Chesapeake Bay Foundation have been chomping for tax money for so long, I don't think they could possibly close shop if they Bay were actually cleaned up. We've built an industry around stealing your money and giving it them.

Here’s an idea for the MD tax and spend liberals. How about a urine (piss) tax? Since it is a major contribution to the sewer system and WWTP system at each and every town in MD it is certainly contributing to pollution of the Chesapeake Bay. And it is just as ludicrous as a "Rain Tax". A tax collection device can be sent by the state for attachment to either the male or female anatomy for each state resident. The devices can have wireless data transmitted to a master data reception station in Annapolis. If the appropriate numbers are not coming in from each citizen, fines can be imposed. If there is some sort of medical problem diuretics will be sent to the citizen for free. With a little imagination the Liberals can be swimming in money to continue their wonderful agenda for the ignorant sheeple, I mean outstanding citizens of MD.

If they created a Bullsh*t tax the politicians would go broke LOL! Next they are going to tax the air we breathe. So we can either hold our breath and die or pay up.

Save the bay, my ass! They gather money from every resident several times around, in different ways, with different labels. The bay should be pristine by now, but how do we know where that money goes? Apparently NOT into saving any bay.
