This morning the County Executive and County Council arranged a Breakfast meeting with our local Delegation in Annapolis. As you know, next years election is just around the corner and many of our current slate of officials, including potential candidates, are vying for a position.
This mornings topics included the following; local employment data, property assessments, transportation budget - particularly - restoring our transporation funding levels for road repairs.
Lieutenant Governor Candidate, Jeannie Haddaway and Delegate Rich Colburn chimed-in and stated; that during the past legislative session that they had made provisions to set-a-side a substantial sum of money to be used for our local counties road maintenance and that their plan was not acted upon by the administration. A noteworthy general observation - was that there was consensus among all our elected State's Delegates that a substantial portion of the State's road maintenance budget had been diverted and used for the expansion of our western shore railway transit system.
The upcoming Governor's election should prove to be very interesting as Harford County Executive - David Craig and Lieutenant Governor Candidate - Jeannie Haddaway team-up to bring their platform and vision for Maryland's future.
As for my own assessment - the Craig/Haddaway team is the best choice in order for the 23 local counties to gain economic parity in Annapolis.

I agree, the eastern shore is simply outnumbered when it comes to inner Baltimore city issues. And the transit system has strained our state budget.
succeed
There is so much disparity in our standard of living verses the western shore. They take our land rights, they take the bulk of our budgetary monies, they host our baseball team and football team and we get the shaft.
Secede, you mean?
How ever could the Eastern Shore survive as either the 51st state or as a sovereign nation? We couldn't entertain, fish or farm fast enough to generate enough taxes to sustain ourselves and our infrastructure, and those who worked across the bridge but lived here would be taxed by Maryland on their income made in Maryland, as well as here.
Nice pie in the sky thought, though.
I just moved here from Waldorf and am really impressed with this media.
There is a democrat from the western shore by the name of Gangster that is trying out for the Governorship.
Joe why weren't you at the meeting? You are our Mayor candidate.
12:08 lol.....his name is Doug Gansler - our current attorney general. nice try, though.
To 12:26 - Somehow I believe that 12:08 knew his correct pronunciation but it is funny. I heard a commentator on the radio talk show make the same mistake and announced his name as Doug Gangsler and I thought how funny it was that a person with this name was running for Governor.
Ocean City takes in more than enough money to fund every project and entity on the Eastern Shore but has to send it to Annapolis.I say keep it here!
1:29 If the federal government hadn't spent $100's of millions pumping sand back up on the beach, Ocean City would have been gone years ago.
Well since we're talking about seceding, let's name this 51st state.
anonymous 2:40, "Independence", "Liberty" "Freedom" or as jimmy Ireton would like, "Rainbow".
anonymous 12:18, WHY, when all they have to do is flip the names electronically.
Clearly we had representation at this meeting.
Just know that I have been very busy volunteering quietly for this Holiday Season making lives a whole lot better for those who need it most.
This county, city, state has had problems for years with promoting and getting jobs, now Pollitt wants to talk about it since re-election is coming up and we are bleeding jobs faster than one can say, "vote".
Taxpayers really need to think about the upcoming election, the choices, and the past history when voting. It is time for the same old, same old to be voted out and the good ole boys system to be given a rest.
Candidates that have proven they don't have our best interests at heart should not be voted back into office. Their willingness to set aside ethics for personal profit is an indicator that they will say and do anything to get your vote then if elected your voice, your vote will be betrayed by them.
A clean sweep needs to be made. If you don't, you can except higher taxes on your personal and property taxes. Aren't they high enough already????? Are you holding on by a thread with these leaders at the helm?????
Responding to 5:33 - All I can say is DITTO, DITTO, DITTO. Your words are well spoken.
To 5:33 - I am an income tax preparer and I can tell you that Wicomico's local income tax rate is the highest in the State. They cannot by law increase the rate anymore - unless the state legislature approves it.
From what I have observed here in Maryland, I would not put it past them to do just that. Almost every other tax has been increased
and it appears that those governing feel no remorse in imposing more hardships on the ordinary working folks.
What a collosal waste of money.
6:37pm Then there needs to be a clean sweep of all the elected officials: Matt Holloway, John Hall, Gail Barko, Sherrie Hughes, Joe Holloway, Bob Culver, Stevie Prettryman, Rick Pollitt. Are you willing to do so. Doubt it.
Responding to 11:09 - Nope you have it all wrong. The County Council was ambushed by none other than Senator Madaleno when he sponsored a bill that penalized our Wicomico County for the MOE. You need to go look at the 2012 Regular Session and you will see that he sponsored legislative bill SB740 - Bill Penalizing Wicomico County - Property Tax - Charter Counties - Educational Funding.
Many feel he had no authority as he was not elected by our people. However, there is rumor that he acted on behalf of Norman Conway to help insulate him from his constituency.
What ethics!!!!
Get rid of the County Executive position and all that supports it. Save money doing it and make the County Council do it's job.It took a petition to create it, start a petition to get rid of it.
