Salisbury Kennel Club Backs Out Of Salisbury Christmas Parade And For Good Reasons

Dear Members,

I sadly announce that we will not be taking part in the Salisbury Christmas Parade. Our entry number was 33 but the Parade Committee placed our unit, very last in the parade. The Board of Directors made this decision last night after receiving our unit placement.

The following letter was sent to the JC's cancelling our entry.

To whom it may concern,

We are extremely upset that the parade committee decided to place our unit at the very end of the parade. With lining up before 1 pm and then standing around waiting to start, it makes it very hard on the dogs with the cold hard surfaced roads for that length of time. As responsible owners this is putting unnecessary stress on the animals and we will not do this to our dogs. We also requested that our unit be placed ahead of any horse units as the poo is hard on the feet of our dogs, our request was ignored this year as it was last year.

We have had a long history with Salisbury JC's and the Christmas Parade, but this year, we are withdrawing our entry for reasons already stated.

Publishers Notes: The Jaycees better get on the ball. A few years ago Salisbury News was in the Parade and we were removed from any exposure on PAC 14. (politics). Barrie Tilghman was well known for throwing outright temper tantrums for not being placed first in the Parade. Soon enough you will simply see the Mayor, Council, SPD, SFD, Public Works and a few butt kissers left in the Parade as people are growing tired of the Jaycees forgetting where they came from.

The Jaycees recruit people under 35 years old and if they don't open their eyes to future generations of the ENTITLEMENT GENERATION and realize fewer and fewer young people will have ANY interest in volunteering, well, they'll simply disappear and go away. In the mean time they need to respect wishes from their supporters and understand their unique needs. They are not asking to be first in line and the dogs have NEVER been a problem in any way, shape or form in this parade.

Way to go, Joe. I was hoping you would be mayor and ban the JC's.

Good for the kennel club.

I find it very unpleasant the way this issue is being handled. What is there reasoning for placing them last. What exactly is their problem?
And shouldn't santa be last?

Well the Salisbury Parade is on the bottom of parades most people attend anyway. Seems that all the smaller towns have a very nice parade. Salisbury needs to take some lessons from these towns.

My children are going to miss seeing the dogs. I understand the Kennel Club's concerns & I agree with them. Maybe I won't even go this year. Isn't it suppose to rain that day anyway?

Whomever is running this show lacks common sense it appears. Even the most well behaved dog (or any animal for that matter) may show signs of restlessness, having to wait for so long. Dogs should be near the beginning and horses shortly after and yes of course Santa is always last in a Christmas parade. Geez, I though everyone knew that!

The kennel club actions are that of a petulant child. For christ sakes the parate is not about them. Good riddance. Oh and by the way, there will always be plenty of volunteers in society. There is still a good number of people that take joy from helping others without the expectation of quid pro quo. Seems most of you including Albero have no idea what volunteering is all about or the basic meaning.

anonymous 10:48, How dare you make such a statement.

I have done more volunteering on the Eastern Shore than you could ever dream of. I'm pretty confident Salisbury News has made more donations than you have ever dreamed of as well.

The Salisbury Kennel Club made the right decision based on the best interests of the animals.

I can tell what kind of human being you are simply by using Christ's name in your comment. If anyone is a petulant child, that would be you.

I agree with the kennel club. Over the years, the JC's have gone downhill and this is just another example.

It is obvious the JC's don't care about the animals welfare. If they did, they would stagger animal entries with the endless procession of fire trucks, cars, etc.

It is a real shame the JC's don't show more appreciation and respect for the Kennel Club and the animals for they really do a great deal of good for the community in general and the police in particular.

And as a footnote, as others have stated, Santa ALWAYS comes last! For all those in the JC's too young to know better.

Ocean City, Pocomoke, Berlin really have great parades. Salisbury's has seen much better days.

1048-the parade is all about it's participants. If it weren't for participation there wouldn't be a parade. To even suggest putting the dogs last is asinine. Certain participants need special consideration which anyone with an ounce of intelligence would know. I swear some of you people were born without a functioning brain. There is no other explanation for such foolishness.

I'm not big on OC's. I prefer a Christmas parade to held at night.

Having the dogs in the parade so differs from the many fire trucks and the other floats and entries that I think it would have been prudent to accommodate their wishes as much as possible. You want and should foster variety in a parade in order to keep the interest alive.

I don't understand if you were entry 33... Then you would be number 33 in the parade...or not? Please explain. Thanks!

The list isn't in lineup order as far as I can see you go by the number on the right...that's your place in parade.

Its just like mardela isnt judged but every other wicomico band unit is.. it is sad that they wont work with your request which is a simple one..

For those of you who do not know, the Kennel Club is a Non-Profit corporation (donations tax-exempt) and is composed of an all VOLUNTEER membership. Many members are exceptionally passionate about the welfare of their animals, as you may have noticed. "Don't mess with my kids or my pets!!"

This was resolved. Joes posted a follow up. There was a misunderstanding.and kennel club is participating. They never were at the end...they were 33 in the line up. End of story.
