Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash West Of Georgetown

Location: Seashore Highway (SR18/404) east of Coverdale Road, Georgetown, DE

Date of Occurrence: Friday November 1, 2013 at approximately 12:23 p.m.

Operator #1: Nathaniel McCullen, 19, Seaford, DE
Vehicle #1: 1997 GMC Sonoma pickup truck

Operator #2: Jane E. Workman, 58, Bridgeville, DE
Vehicle #2: 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Resume:
Georgetown, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred earlier this afternoon.

The incident occurred around 12:23 p.m. as Nathaniel McCullen was operating a 1997 GMC Sonoma pickup truck westbound on Seashore Highway (SR18/404) approximately one half mile east of Coverdale Road. Jane E. Workman was operating a 2000 Hyundai Sonata eastbound on SR18 when for unknown reasons, the pickup truck drifted into the eastbound lanes. Workman attempted to avoid the truck by moving off on the eastbound shoulder but was struck head-on by the truck causing the car to be partially lodged over a guardrail.

Jane Workman, who was properly restrained, was extricated by mechanical means and transported by EMS to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Nathaniel McCullen was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he is currently admitted with non-life-threatening injuries. It is unknown whether he was properly restrained.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this case and charges may be forthcoming. SR18 between Shorts Lane and Coverdale Road was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
