As much as I hate them, they are supremely effective in slowing down traffic, especially around schools. I say keep them, as long as they are restricted to JUST schools. I do not agree with having them randomly placed.
I feel a red light camera is more beneficial than these speed cameras. People run lights all the time which can result is very serious accidents. Very few kids cross the streets at any of the schools and none have ever been hit.
Yes, we should be able to vote on these robot cash registers.
The ballot should have 3 choices:
1) Eliminate 2) Keep but only operate 1/2 hour before and after school opening & dismissal, only on days school is in session. 3) Keep them as is so they fine folks when kids are inside school or already at home. 4) For humor: Pollitt or Ireton has to be sitting in a lawn chair with a radar gun at the site.
I could accept option 2 since it actually benefits kids in transit.
The current scheme (#3) was chosen to provide a big enough payday to equipment vendor and to buy wish list items.
I'm with 4:07, but I'd add that a school must be visible from the camera. I like the Ireton in a lawn chair w/ a radar gun. Keep him away from city hall. So, it's a yes on the referendum.
Can we get a camera to fine all the kids jay walking? Why can't people use cross walks here? Drive near East Main and Mt Hermon at 7:30am and see all the kids crossing in the middle of the street. Then there is north of Main on 13 WTF ....constantly dodging people jay walking.
I saw an article somewhere recently that fingered these machines the culprit in accident increase. In light of that, yes. BTW.., there's a helluvalot more issues that should be brought to referendum, too.
Actually if this went to referendum I believe people would vote for more speed cameras to be placed in the county. That would settle it for all of you who despise them. I know I would vote for more.
Yes, all speed and red light cameras should be eliminated! They infringe on the rights of all citizens whether they are breaking the law or not! It has nothing to do with safety, but everything to do with revenue enhancement!
Where were all the people when these cameras were discussed at all the council meetings? At home, on their couches, eating potato chips and farting. Be part of the process....don't complain about things after the fact. Be a part of your government.

Yes. It should be brought to referendum. Whether you like or dislike them, a vote is the proper way to decide. Not vandalism.

Well a dumb question as speed cameras have been around a long time.... The question and point is worthless .....
yes get rid of those damn cameras .also get rid of the 2 ca ncers that are ruining salisbury & wico.co.ireton and Pollitt.you both suck wen.
Yes we need to vote them in, AND limit the hours and days of the week, along with the months of operation.
Absolutely Yes.
Yes, absolutely. Cameras take discretion out of the equation which is an uniformed officer's choice with most MV violations.

no, i think the vandals should be happy with a simple squirt of black paint over the camera lenses. No one would be the wiser.
problem solved.
