November 15th's 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury will be all about Light and the Holiday Spirit! It's the last official outdoor 3rd Friday of the season and the 3F team will be sure to light up the night! So bundle up, and head downtown from 5-8pm, for an event that is sure to leave you feeling thankful that the Holidays are on their way!
The City of Salisbury's Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on the Plaza this year, with special musical performances, dedications and, of course, a visit from Santa. Performances by the Wicomico High School Chorus & Band begin at 5:30. The Tree will be lit around 6:45, and then Santa will head over to First Shore Federal for pictures.
The CCART Annual Show and Sale will be taking place in the Powell Building. This annual sale is a fantastic place to find all sorts of one of a kind, locally handmade gifts, and a portion of the proceeds goes towards scholarships for local high school students to pursue higher education in the arts! They have everything from handmade jewelry, collectibles and pottery, all the way to fine art. Santa is one of CCART's best customers every year.
Art Institute and Gallery, in the Gallery Building, will have the opening of their Holiday Artist Art & Craft Show and Sale, another place to snatch up amazing art, at reasonable holiday shopping prices. Judging will be done by Diane Mitchell of Hebron, and Canzona Diversa, an early music ensemble, will provide baroque, holiday and renaissance music with period instruments.
SWAC, Salisbury University Art Galleries and Sister Cities will be joining forces to present; Arts Light Up the World at the SU Galleries Downtown Campus. This arts review will be complete with dance, song and instrumental, and is a coordinated effort by the three organizations to showcase international arts.
SU Art Galleries Downtown Campus will also be holding a reception for their City of Tiny Lights Exhibition. This unique show is all about size. Does it matter? Smallness seems to be an ever-increasing thing, as technology makes all our gadgets smaller and more efficient and a growing population requires that we use less space and material. In honor of the small, SU sent out a call for tiny works of art, 12" or less to be exact, and will be exhibiting their petite hoard as one large exhibit. Who's small now?
Wicomico Public Library and Remedy Church will be having a ribbon cutting for the new library mural at 5 pm. The mural has been a great community project, lead by local artist
Douglas Draper Jr. 3rd Friday has loved seeing all the kids and adults work together, and we are excited to see it finished! Afterwards, be sure to stop by the Friends of the Library Book Sale - held in the Library's basement. They will have hundreds of books, movies and CD's on sale. Hours have been extended 7 pm to welcome 3rd Friday shoppers. Wicomico Public Library's bookmobile will also be at 3rd Friday - all decorated for the holidays! Be sure to stop in, get a library card and check out a few fun titles for the weekend.
Don't forget to head down Main Street to Season's Best Antiques, another amazing place for unique shopping, and they always run amazing sales during 3rd Friday. Dryden Dress Company will have live music and special offers during their Anniversary Party from 5-7pm. Guests can enter to win a free prom dress, and brides can enter to win a free viel or 25% off a designer gown! Julie Snowden, the owner of A Touch Of Jules will also be in the shop talking to customers about her Day of Wedding Planning Services.

Why don't we just light the tree on July 4th next year.
And they can't even call it a CHRISTMAS tree! :-(
Must be the Thanksgiving tree?
Smallest tree in Salisbury's history that I'm aware of. They have ornaments from years past that would easily make the tree fall over if they only put four of them on this tree. All you have to do is look at the tree stand and you can see the one they installed this year is like putting a toothpick in a home tree stand. Then again, the Mayor isn't into CHRISTmas. You'll simply get what he wants you to get. I'd be more than happy to donate a much bigger/mature tree next year if the Mayor would be so kind?
6:11
Maybe he's trying to save money :P
Downtown looked the best in years tonite with lots of people, hope it continues.
Jim Ireton and most homosexuals are atheists.
8:47 I don't know anything about the religious leanings of homosexuals and you probably don't either. I know that God loves us all and that we are not to judge others. If you were kind to one person today and it changes their day for the better they might wonder about you and what you believe in because you cared enough to be kind. I'm just saying.. being mean turns people off and closes any door to understanding.
anonymous 9:01, how convenient to use the phrase God loves everyone. So we must accept homosexuality and be kind to all because that is what YOU want to push as an agenda. Look, I don't dislike Jim Ireton, (as an example). I simply disagree with his politics AND his way of life. And why would you finish by saying being mean closes any door to understanding. I, nor my Children, nor my Grandchildren need to UNDERSTAND homosexuality and that's what wrong with people like you. You feel we must accept this lifestyle. I guess God will not love us if we don't do what YOU say. So we disagree. That doesn't mean that we are MEAN or HATEFUL. We simply disagree, but that's not OK for liberals. It's your way or the highway.
Understand what I'm about to tell you.
The people that do not agree with homosexuality do now hate. WE have a different belief. We do not feel homosexuals need to be wiped off the face of the earth. WE simply will not accept your brainwashing in society to claim we are racist or very bad people because we don't openly accept your way of life.
Accept this and we can all move on.
I agree, Joe. We don't hate or push a Hetero agenda on gays. There is no "Heterosexual Appreciation Days" that I'm aware of. We have never forced anyone to act in any way.
It is their agenda to initiate this crap, and frankly, they can take it to their own house AND KEEP IT THERE!
How the heck is this turned to be "our fault"?????
Turd miners are a sorry bunch!
