HILLSBORO, Ore. – Nine parents pulled their seventh- and eighth-graders out of math class and started teaching them at home, because they are upset with the new Common Core curriculum that public schools in Oregon are starting this year.
Seventh-grader Amy Craig has always been an "A" student in math until this year. She came home with a "D."
The same thing happened to other students in her school. So their moms got together and decided to teach math themselves – an hour every morning.
Then the kids go off to school for the rest of the day.

socialist are trying their heart out!
My work place is getting the same way!
well look at that. parents that care about their children and have common sense...fantastic. maybe this will spread. we can only hope.
You clowns don't even know what common core is. Please show me where there is anything "socialist" in teaching kids to use math as the tool that it is, not as simply memorizing a few numbers and formulas. If the parents want to pull kids out fine. Good for them. But cut all the political demonization. Especially when we see that the traditional curriculum is not working.
Prime example of the failure of the traditional system: most of you will read this article and the "catholic critique" and not be able to distinguish between opinions and facts, have the skills to vet these claims, or the ability to think critiquely about the piece.
Common Core is the perfect machine to crank out little indoctrinated socialists...go to your Board of Education meetings and let them know how you feel...it is sickening to listen to the Kool-Aid drinkers gush about how great Common Core is...it is dumbing down our kids...literally re-writes history to meet their own agenda..creates little liberals to continue with the destruction of our country. It needs to be stopped!
If you think they hate the O common core plan now, what until the bribe money runs out! Oh, is already has....
Nothing will work as long as the affirmative action type mindset is applied to education 7:26. Let's just dumb everybody down to the same level.
