Resume:
Middletown – A traffic stop on Delaware Route 1 yesterday resulted in the seizure of large amount of cocaine and heroin.
Shortly before 2:00 p.m. a Trooper traveling south on Route 1, south of Middletown Odessa Road (Del. 299), observed a 2013 Toyota Corolla traveling too closely to the vehicle in front of it. The Corolla then changed lanes without properly displaying a turn signal.
The Trooper initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Once he approached the Corolla and began talking to the driver, he detected the smell of burnt marijuana. The driver, Javona Smith, 35, of Chesapeake, VA, provided the Trooper with paperwork showing that the car was a rental vehicle that was not authorized to leave Virginia.
A search of the vehicle resulted in Troopers locating a jacket in the trunk. Concealed in the jacket was a plastic bag containing 170 grams of cocaine and 515 grams of heroin. Detectives estimate the drugs are worth almost $70,000 and, once packaged and sold in individual units, could be sold for more than $250,000.
Smith and her passenger, Sherita Nicks, 40, of New York, NY, were both taken into custody and transported to Troop 2. Both were charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance in a tier 5 quantity and two counts of conspiracy second degree. Smith was also charged with two moving violations. Both defendants were committed to Baylor Women's Correctional Institute on secured bail. Troopers determined the odor in the vehicle was a result of Smith smoking marijuana shortly before driving.

Are these Obamas sisters?
A "traffic stop" for changing lanes (which a cop pointed out here is not a violation) without a turn signal? And following too closely? For real?? THAT'S really reaching for something to initiate a traffic stop. A more likely (and truthful) story is that an informant fingered them and they used the "traffic stop" as the reason. No one REALLY thinks that all those drug arrests on the RT 13 bypass were just from super great police work, do they?????
That is a lot of heroin, 1/2 kilo. They will owe the big guy big bucks, those two will be found dead in the not to distant future.
Outstanding police work!
Come on imclain buddy, you know following too closely is a violation,= tailgating.
I don't know about this particular case since I didn't read the article,(I am so tired of hearing about big this and big that drug cases), but the police need to target that and a few other traffic violations, in ADDITION to their favorite hobby, speeders.
The so called war on drugs was lost a long time ago. Hell, our own government agencies bring the stuff into this country and use the profits to fund their little escapades. And that's nothing new either.
Up until recently balt cops were robbing dealers and taking it to THEIR dealers to be sold while they helped as lookouts.
The police HAVE to publicise a bust now and then to make it look like they are doing their job and are 'tough' on crime. lol.
I'm sure you realize I am referring to the small number of 'bad apples' that do that sort of thing.
Right? ;)
I'm glad their names were posted.I thought they were Thelma and Louise.
