A Letter To The Editor: "GOOD WILL DISCOUNTS"
I would like to let all seniors in the Salisbury area know, that the sign in the Salisbury Goodwill on Wednesdays states "55 and older senior citizens/ and college students 20% discount on Wednesdays" but if you go to pay for your purchases on Wednesdays you are told" if the merchandise is NEW merchandise you do not get a discount'!! Now I have spoken to the manager before reference this miss leading info and was told " you can't expect us to sell merchandise that was just purchased, for the same price we bought in for" !! Well guess what I nor anyone else is stupid enough to believe that !!!! And you NEED TO CHANGE YOUR SIGNS. The same thing applies to the books they have a price for paper back books, when you go to purchase a paper back book it depends on the thickness of that book and the catagory of that book! Why have signs and prices at all , and as for the book thing I always purchase the same type of book, which is always very close to the same size and thickness maybe a 1/16th of an inch difference and every Wednesday the price is different depending on who rings it up , explain that one. For people who are on fixed incomes prices and discounts and advertising is big in our world, TRUTH MATTERS.

I noticed their prices had gone up significantly in the past 6 months. I use to go get shirts there for $2 and some change. Last time I went, all the prices for shirts had gone up a few dollars. I refuse to pay $5 for a USED shirt when I can go somewhere like Kohl's and buy a brand new one for just as cheap on clearance. Not to mention, the Goodwill is a disgusting store and it is never clean.
I quit going there because of the price increases. I do better with new stuff on clearance.
Goodwill is a private business owned by a millionaire. Donate your stuff to The Salvation Army. They actually help people.
I am sorry to hear these things about the Good Will. Hopefully, someone in a position to change their operations will see this and address the concerns.
Don't like it? Don't go in the store.

To 1:52, blast their prices all you want, but it's just ignorant to say that Goodwill is a private business owned by a millionaire. The Goodwills around the country are private non-profits -- not owned by anyone -- that do a lot of good things for people with disabilities. Before you spread lies, check your facts.

I quit going there because it is a for profit business. The owner is getting richer off your donatiions. Give to the Salvation Army or HALO, or other church thrift store.

If you want a good price on second hand clothing, books and household needs go to the Opportunity Shop. It is run by Asbury Church and I've found good deals there all the time. They are only open on Thurs and Sat from 10 to 3p. Also they do accept donations on those days and I think Tues and fri till 12noon. Please considered them in the future
I buy thousands of dollars worth of stuff annually from the Salisbury Goodwill to use and to re-sell on ebay. The reason I go there is that they bring in a lot of top quality items in from DC and Baltimore. The local Salvation Army has nothing but beat up local trash. They have jacked their prices up but there are still deals to be had if you look carefully.
I wouldn't shop at the local SA on a bet. I've checked it out several times and 95% is stuff that belongs in a dumpster.
Some of the workers at Goodwill make less than a dollar an hour. I'm not kidding. They found a loophole in federal law that allows this.
I believe how it works is it is a non profit. They say they provide job training but the executives do make 6 figure salaries atleast one over $800,000.

Check out the church thrift shop on Rt 54 in between Fenwick and Selbyville. I've gotten 2 or 3 pairs of Ralph Lauren Polo jeans and a lovely lilac cashmere sweater. Every item is clean and you don't ever see damaged items.
Salvation Army Thrift Store is a joke. They have some of the same stuff in there for months on end because it belongs in the dumpster. I don't know what happened there but they need to get rid of whoever is running that place and start over again and Goodwill has upped their prices and they keep doing it. You can go to other stores and get brand new for some of the prices they are charging.
Goodwill is not a thrift store but a thief store. They take donated items and sell most of it as if it was NEW. This store rips people off. The only time I went there they were selling old used game consoles that has dents or is broken only few bucks under a new game console, can say rip off.
Good Will is GREEDY! The prices on some of their items is out of this world...$5.00 and up for a childs shirt,,and some are priced at $10.00 or higher..You can go to mall and buy cheaper....I refuse to shop there anymore...Good Will used to be for the needy, and poor people to be able to shop...Now they cant afford to shop there..WTH...Come on people stop donating to these idiots...They have gotton way to GREEDY!!!!!!!

I think the thrift stores in these 3 lower counties-Som/Wor/Wic and maybe even Sussex should get together on a website. A few years ago I helped a friend in her shop on the Boardwalk and the most asked question we got was were their any thrift shops around. At the time we only knew of the Diakonia one in West OC and AGH's in the old Ames Plaza in Berlin.
Unfortunately Goodwill is a Corporate Non-Profit and the signs and prices are handed down to them by headquarters. They have increased prices recently but I find more "quality" merchandise there than at SA. Some smaller thrift stores have better deals but no selection. I know someone who works there and they are paid over minimum wage and has vacation, health insurance and sick time so I don't know what the comment about paying less than a dollar is about. I also know that the career center next door helps train and find jobs for people who have trouble finding work because they have just got out of ECI and have no experience in the workforce and felony charges to boot. The person earlier said it best...if you don't like goodwill...shop at SA. I for one will continue to shop where I find the best merchandise.
