OMG the sky is falling!

Get over it, no one cares. Better hope you never need them.

Does anyone know how many hours each driver is required to log each month?

I'm a taxpayer and it matters to me. If they are on their lunch break they should drive their own car, order for delivery, pack a lunch or cook in the firehouse kitchen.

Yesterday and Today I did my civic duty and went for jury duty in Georgetown De. As many of us waited in line a Salisbury Fire Cheif car pulled in and the guy that got out was the asst cheif slender gray haired guy from Delmar De area. Everyone was commenting how we all were not at work nor lucky enough to use tax payers dollars to make our trip..Waste of Salisburys money for sure

Yes people care. We care. Thank you for exposing this waste of taxpayer dollars. Firemen should leave the fire vehicles at the station until they are needed, and not use them for personal errands. Some fireman are abusing the system and the taxpayers.

If your house was on fire during their lunch break, would u like to wait for the fire fighters to drive back to the station before they suit up and come save your candy a$$

What happens when they have to come back by the firehouse to get to my house because your candy a$$ was not at the fire house where you were suppose to be? You shouldn't assume they are always closer

Can't the city just pay for delivery? Got to be cheaper than gas and depreciation on those trucks.

6:43 they would go to the station then proceed with crew and all gear

Really, with everything else going on in/around Salisbury & you're worried about where the firefighters are eating lunch & how they got there?! Get a grip!

643 & 659, here's the simple answer. The runner who went to pick up lunch in their personal vehicle may be able to be wired with some high tech communications device. Like a pager, only different. We, in our house, use things called "Cellphones". Some fire companies actually go up a level and have what's called "Radios". These "communications devices" can be used to notify the lunch runner that there is a call, and that the farmin are going to drive the fartruck to chase an ambulance and they can even tell the runner the address they are going to.
The runner can then actually drive that personal vehicle to meet up with the crew to help lift the overweight patient into the ambulance.
Then, the runner, if not yet in possession of the glorious meal, can go back, pick it up, and all can eat.
I know this is a difficult concept, but there are books you can get that tell you about cars, phones, and radios.
You should all read them, if you know how to read. I'm sure there are videos and tapes available if you caint.

If they knew the real true story about Taylor's they wouldn't be there at all..., well maybe they would be, but you'd never catch me spending a cent there.

To 6:43. And you shouldn't assume the fire fighters have their "suits" with them when they are at lunch. Most of the time the "suits" are at the firehouse.

Just maybe they were on the way back from a call.

They have to get the miles up on those vehicles in order to justify there existence. It's not right but that is the way it is. They don't need to go out on every fender bender either but they do for the same reason, it justifies their existence.

While on duty if someone went out for lunch in private vehicle and then responded to a call in that vehicle the city would be liable if that person was in a accident.

I would like to know just how many vehicles are owned by all three fire stations in Salisbury. Whenever I hav seen an accident, there is usually at least 2 or 3 fire trucks and 2 or 3 ambulances. Sdeems like overkill.

OK Ginn what's the real truth about Taylor's. Speak up if you know so much or shut up.

What is wrong with Rick Hoppes that he knows all this and still allows it.....knowing the taxpayers are not happy. It was a struggle for him to get his position and I would think he would not want to jeopardize it. Wake up Hoppes and do your leader job. It's not the firefighters problem if they are being allowed to do it. When most people who have jobs like hospital personnel get lunch it is on premesis and that's what they should do as well. Plenty of places deliver or you could take something with you. Maybe someday, if this is not resolved by the chief, that the city government will change and someone will put people in Hoppes place that can handle the job.

They need to be at the firehouse in case a call comes through. If you want lunch, order in. Or better yet, pack your lunch at home and bring it with you. (I know a lot of people would be horrifed at such a thought) It would save you money and a ton of calories......not to mention stop wasting the taxpayers money!!!!

Everyone knows Rick Hoppes is not qualified to be chief

i drive one of those fire trucks. friday we are driving down to red roost with the big red truck for an early dinner and suds. come join us we might need a D D for the ride back.

Wow do any of you think? Maybe they take the truck in case a call comes in. You do realize they have radios right? They don't work 9 to 5. They work 24 hour shifts. How many calls to they respond to when on there way back from a call. Is it really any different from the numerous police officers that stop for coffee while on duty? If you want to pick on someone pick of Salisbury's finest as well.

Yes, of course it is different with SPD. They are expected to be in the patrol car....wait for it...PATROLING.

I'm sure most business owners like when there is a police presence at their store. Added security and a police presence that will deter any wannabe robbers.

Are you guys really that low down to try to pass the buck to another, unrelated agency?

You really can't see the difference between the two?

From all of these posts/comments from supposedly firemen themselves, I am seriously beginning to question the intelligence level of the people employed as firemen.

That is not a put down. That is a bona fide concern now. Maybe they really do not know any better. If that is the case, they should not be driving any dept vehicle at any time.

They can ride in the back and carry a hose but don't let them have any real responsibility. It would be plain to see they cannot handle it.
