Town Of Ocean City Announces New Police Chief

After conducting a national search, which resulted in dozens of qualified candidates, the Town of Ocean City is pleased to welcome Lieutenant Colonel Ross Buzzuro to the position of Chief of Police. The position became vacant in January 2013, when 25-year Town of Ocean City employee, Chief Bernadette DiPino, retired.

As Chief of Police, Buzzuro will oversee the department, which consists of nearly 100 full time officers, 100 seasonal officers and approximately 20 civilian employees. In addition, his responsibilities will include developing and implementing law enforcement initiatives and crime prevention strategies, creating organization and community partnerships, overseeing operational commands and managing a multi-million dollar budget.

“On behalf of the City Council, I am very pleased to welcome Chief Buzzuro to Ocean City,” said Mayor Rick Meehan. “We had a number of very qualified candidates apply for the position and this was a very tough decision to make, however; Chief Buzzuro’s knowledge, experience and leadership stood out amongst the rest. I am confident he will be a great asset to the citizens in the community, the members of the Ocean City Police Department, as well as the future of Ocean City.”

Chief Buzzuro began his career in law enforcement in 1985, as a police cadet in Baltimore City. He worked his way through the ranks, serving as a sergeant, detective lieutenant, deputy major, major and eventually being named lieutenant colonel in 2007. A graduate from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy and the University of Maryland’s Fire & Rescue Institute, Chief Buzzuro has been a commander within the Baltimore City’s Special Enforcement Section, Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, and Internal Investigations Division. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Management from John Hopkins University and is known for improving operations, effectively managing resources and strengthening relationships.

Buzzuro is expected to begin his new position on July 2. “I am honored to serve the residents and visitors of Ocean City as Chief of Police,” said Chief Buzzuro. “As Chief, I understand a key component of public safety is partnering with the community and understanding the dynamic of Ocean City’s unique environment. I look forward to accomplishing public safety through teamwork, professionalism, and discipline of the fine men and women who serve the Ocean City Police Department.”

Discipline, ??? already off to a bad start. They don't understand that "down here". It's all about who you know, and who you have something on.

Makes sense, another Baltimorone on Eastern Shore. Sooner than latter, the shore will be all Baltimored up.

12:29 - There's way too many uneducated 'Good Ole Boys' and ignorant ShoreBillies in this area.

The more our area gets inundated with "Baltimoreans" and non-LocalYocals from other areas of MD and other states - the better! These people want to WORK 40-50 hrs/week Year-Round, not a few hours here and there and whenever they feel like it as lazy ShoreBillies do. ShoreBillies would rather go fishin' and huntin' instead of working, which is why there are so many poor people on the Lower Shore.

By the way it's "Baltimorons", not "Baltimorones" and if you would have stayed in school instead of following your ShoreBilly friends, you would have know how to spell M-O-R-O-N.

Having worked for OCPD over half my life I have to say I have worked for many good and bad Chiefs. I must say that the two worse ones came from Baltimore County. (not to mention any names. (D and D) I found that the best were Duggan, also from Baltimore County and Massey (from the ranks). We need to give this Chief a chance to do his job and run a difficult agency to run.

3:32-Oh I can see you are just so intelligent-LOL. The overwhelming majority of the western shore is a cess pool of crime and poverty with a few small pockets of wealth here and there. The last thing the eastern shore needs anymore of are these people coming here and messing this place up like they've crapped up the western shore with their liberal views and lack of morals that comes with liberism.
As far as the new chief I dont' put him in this category and I agree with 3:45 because if they are representative of the OCPD employees than that's all that matters. They want to give him a chance then so should we. I've actually heard the same thing from an officer that I know.

I liked his viewpoint --- "...the fine men and women who serve the Ocean City Police Department." As a citizen, I've grown used to cops who think they SERVE the police department. I'd like to see a couple who actually KNOW who they are REALLY suppoed to be serving. Expect more Nazi, strom trooping displays of police power from the shortest and most ignorant cops in the State (and they are famous for both). Groundless searches, hundreds of "obstruction" charges, cops in the middle of the road peering into cars (YOU try that and see how long you're there), beatings, random demands for ID and beatings/arrests for not "complying", total disregard for law (you know, the thing that we ALL must respect), and pretty much Barney Fife shenanighans up and down the city streets. Use your name when replying, you oompaa loompaas...

4:45 - You have to admit that 3:32 makes a great point, just as ex-Governor Schaefer did about MD's Eastern Shore.

Oh great! Another outsider! When will these elected clowns learn their lessons? Didn't they learn anything from that clown from Florida? I was looking at this guys credentials and it is obvious he leap frogged over many ranks to get to the top. I to wonder what was meant by him being a graduate of the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute? You really don't graduate from there, you just take classes.
