WICOMICO COUNTY TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL COUNTY GOVERNMENT MONTH IN APRIL

Leaders to Promote “Live Healthy, Wicomico”

Wicomico County will celebrate National County Government Month (NCGM) during the month of April to highlight essential county government programs and services to the public. The county’s theme for this year’s celebration is “Live Healthy, Wicomico.”

“We are very proud of the essential services and programs our county provides each day and especially the people who deliver them,” said County Executive Rick Pollitt, “National County Government Month is a great opportunity for the public to take a closer look at the county services and foster a greater understanding of the role and responsibility of county government.”

Here is a list of events for the month of April:

· April 1st – The 17th Annual Ceremony honoring the Outstanding Public Health Leader for Wicomico County will be held in the Worcester Room at Salisbury University, 3pm

· April 1st – 5th, the Wicomico County Health Department will be celebrating National Public Health Week –

o Learn Piloxing on Wednesday, April 3rd at the Health Department – Fritz Building – at 1230pm

· April 4th – Wicomico County Library (Main Branch) will be hosting a “Healthy Cooking, Healthy Families” event for parents and youth 8-12 years of age

· April 4th – County Executive Pollitt to throw first pitch for Shorebirds Home Opener, 7pm

· April 5th – County Executive Pollitt will be planting trees as part of the Backyard Buffer Program in celebration of Maryland Arbor Day

· April 8th – 12th, the Wicomico County Library will recognize National Library Week with youth and family activities at each branch

· April 13th is County Government Day at the Centre at Salisbury Mall; county employees will be on hand along with Mobile Command Centers, Hazmat and Volunteer Fire Department apparatus, 1pm-3pm

· April 19th—20th, Certified Family Leader Training through the Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children (application deadline March 25, 2013)

· April 19th – 21st, Pork in the Park BBQ Festival at WinterPlace Park

· Solid Waste Division of Public Works will be hosting public tours of the facility (please call the Solid Waste Division to schedule*)

National County Government Month helps raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of the nation’s counties.

Live Healthy Wicomico? Look at how big and overweight the County Executive is.

Somehow Pork in the Park does not quite fit in with the idea of living healthy. (Or eating healthy anyway)

Shame on you for poking fun of mr. pollits body. He is fine example of where I government has brought us! While we starve, they grow more everyday. Rick says, more pork from more politicians!
