Asbury Methodist Church On Camden Ave. Appoints New Pastor

You all know I am very fond of my downtown neighbors, the ladies who run the Opportunity Shop. I like to promote their thrift ministry as often as I can and I know how well they serve needs of Salisbury's thrift shoppers.

The Opportunity Shop is a ministry of Asbury United Methodist Church, the large brick church on Camden Ave. just south of Salisbury University. In December, their 18 year senior pastor, Rev. Glenn Catley, announced his retirement effective June 30. This morning at Asbury's services it was announced that Associate Pastor, Rev. Dr. Benita Harris, will assume the role of Senior Pastor at Asbury in July. United Methodist Church Peninsula Delaware Conference Bishop Peggy Johnson, in consultation with her cabinet and with Asbury's staff parish committee, approved the appointment very recently.

I hope Rev. Harris will continue Asbury's Opportunity Shop commitment to Downtown Salisbury. I enjoy being their neighbor.

I'm kind of surprised to hear this. Rev. Harris hasn't been a minister very long, but she is a gifted pastor and very well liked at Asbury. I'm sure they are pleased. Wish we were getting her at our church.

The Reverend Doctor Benita Harris is a wonderful preacher, teacher, and devoted Christian. Among her many accomplishments, she is a nurse and active in medical missionary trips to Hati and countries in South America. The people at Asbury will be blessed by her presence as their Senior Pastor.
