“This is unique to Maryland,” Miller said. “This is a Maryland delicacy. These are not shipped from Asia,” a point Colburn emphasizes. A crab cake can be made from crab meat shipped from Louisiana or Thailand or Vietnam, but it’s the nature of the soft-shell crab that “you can be 99% sure that it came from Maryland.”
Crabs have soft-shells after they molt their old hard shells, usually in closely watched pools of bay water.
Dan Patrell, publisher and editor of Maryland Life magazine, said its August issue containing recipes and descriptions of soft-shell crab sandwiches was one of its most popular. “It is not a frivolous act” to name it the state sandwich, Patrell said. “They are raised and farmed here by an industry struggling to stay afloat. This is meaningful legislation.”

Great choice.Almost always out of my price range but great choice anyway.
Now this so called meaningful legislation is out of the way, maybe we can get to less important issues like our high taxes and ability to legally protect ourselves.
How, pray, will this aid the struggling industry?
oh yeah, real meaningful legislation.
About the same as a road kill sandwich.
ONLY a politician could call this "meaningful" legislation! HOW much of our money did THIS process cost us? How much money are these guys paid (by us, "we, the people")? Cut their terms to three months and cut their salary in half. Or keep voting for the same trash and scum that we have. After all, we ARE awash in money and its all because of the brilliance of the current crop of "leaders". Whats next on their agenda? Some "meaningful legislation" naming the state bug? The state worm? They should be ashamed. Get back to raising our taxes, increasing fees, and adding some surcharges, for God's sake. Don't forget the penalties and fines. I know they won't, but I had to say it anyway....
Sorry never could get past looking at this to be able to eat it. Most places advertise Maryland Style crab cakes. That doesn't mean the crab meat is from Maryland. Most of the time it means they use old bay to season it with.
AMEN 11:14!
