Senators Not In ‘Millionaires' Club’ Would Be Hurt By Lost Paychecks

The Senate is often called the “millionaires' club,” but some of its members would feel the pain if a blown budget deadline costs them their paychecks.

Provisions in the “No Budget, No Pay” debt ceiling bill that is headed to the Senate floor would impound senators' salaries if the upper chamber doesn’t approve a budget by April 15.

For most of the upper chamber, the loss of the $174,000 annual salary would be no hardship. Many senators are millionaires many times over, having earned substantial fortunes outside of politics.

But for a small group of senators whose net worth is measured in thousands instead of millions, the passage of “No Budget, No Pay” would put their very livelihoods at risk.

Yea, I really feel sorry for them. Our Founders originally met and for those who had to travel fair distances were reimbursed travel expenses. Otherwise, they Served. I realize that in today's times serving for free is virtually impossible but $174,000 seems a bit excessive as it is. Our military salaries for those that risk their lives are only in the $20k range.

Lets get real.

It appears that our Senator, Barbara Mikulski, has no intention of passing a budget. Otherwise why worry about passing this provision.

don't forget they do NOT pay social security and they have one hell of a health insurance plan for themselves, not the one they shoved down our throat.

Senators Mikulski and Cardin haven't passed budget in 4 years and counting. But when they hear Gun Control they want to ban all the guns the next day. OMG, it's for the safety of our children and blah blah blah. You know what, you TWO CROOKS, you HAVE NOT DONE YOUR JOB in last 4 years and you expect to get paid? If we, the working people don't do our jobs, we get fired within 30 days. So stop worry about taking away our liberties & freedom and do you job and pass the budget, or else.... We The People had Enough....
