Maryland Wins $656K Grant To Help Small Businesses Export

Maryland has won a $656,200 grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration that will be used to help small and midsize companies expand their exports to foreign countries.
The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development will use the State Trade and Export Promotion grant to provide one-on-one help and financial assistance of up to $10,000 for small and medium-sized companies to attend overseas trade shows.

really? really? we are broke and we are giving out grants to attend the paris air show?? and this will help how???

Betcha it's all ate up in administrative and overhead costs, and little if any actually benefits the intended recipients of small businesses.

How about a follow-up 6 months from now, showing exactly HOW all the money was spent, and the positive results (RE: Small business growth) that were realized by this?

Have there been similar "grants" like this in past years? How did they perform?
