City Prepares For Weather Associated With Hurricane Sandy


Mayor James Ireton, Jr., announces preparations for the event arriving in Salisbury early next week due to Hurricane Sandy. Mayor Ireton met with City of Salisbury Department heads at 3:30 PM today.

In anticipation of the storm arriving as early as Sunday evening, the City of Salisbury
Department of Public Works is preparing a plan for a 48 hour event. Teresa Gardner, Director of
Public Works will monitor the storm and hold a meeting Friday to discuss specifics with
supervisors of the Waste Water Treatment Plant, Water & Sewer Department, Water Treatment
Plant, the Zoo, the City Service Center and the Marina.

 Generators and city vehicles will be fueled
 Storm drains and catch basins will be cleared
 Public Works will establish emergency numbers that will be fully staffed
 Zoo will move animals inside when necessary
 Waste Water Treatment Plant is planning for high tides and flooding
 Information Technology will monitor and respond to any outages and will update the city
website as needed
 Salisbury Fire Department has equipment fueled, chainsaws prepped for fallen limbs
 Salisbury Police Department is updating schedules to maintain full staffing throughout
the event
 Salisbury Neighborhood Services has 7 trained staff members for damage assessment if
needed
 Salisbury Marina is being prepared for a heavy rain event
The City administration will meet again tomorrow, Friday, October 26, 2012 to assess the storm
further.

“We make these preparations and monitor closely all weather events.  With two snowstorms, an
earthquake and a hurricane under our belt over the past 3 years, we are ready and trained for
these situations.  We ask residents to prepare and be our eyes and ears as these storms come
through Salisbury,” said Mayor James Ireton, Jr.

Joe hurry up and change what this says - "The city administration will meet again tomorrow, Friday, October 26 before somebody makes some kind of smark remark.
